YES IT'S SHRINKING.
The UK's graduate job market isn't slowing down.
According to data shared by talent leader Chris Pestell on LinkedIn, advertised graduate roles reportedly fell from 180,000 to 50,000 in a single year, while entry-level vacancies have dropped to a five-year low.
At the same time:
👉 More than half of "entry-level" jobs now require prior experience
👉 There are approximately 2.5 unemployed people competing for every vacancy
👉 73% of UK employers still report difficulties finding skilled talent
The irony?
While organisations reduce junior hiring today, they may be creating a leadership pipeline problem tomorrow.
The graduates not getting opportunities now won't become: future managers, senior specialists, people leaders, department heads.
You can't build experienced talent without first creating opportunities for experience.
You need more than qualifications alone. And visibility into: skills development, career progression, readiness gaps, and even evidence of growth.
That's why career intelligence infrastructure matters today helping individuals measure development, track progression, and build proof of employability over time.
Because in a changing workforce, your career shouldn't rely on assumptions.
It should be measurable.
What do you think is the biggest factor behind the decline in graduate opportunities today: AI, rising hiring costs, experience requirements, or something else?
