Alexa Whitten Author Maker

Alexa Whitten Author Maker I help people become authors. I offer everything from writing help to design, print and publishing. Unfortunately the book was awful.

Our mission is to help all aspiring authors get their book 'out of their heads and into print' by offering a bespoke service, be it coaching or production. In 2005 - whilst at a seminar - a client of Alexa's boss (she was employed full time by him) proudly produced a book that he had written, and formatted himself. The cover was mismatched, the text inside was all different sizes and the page numbers weren't in the right place. Even though the author was really pleased with his publication - it sparked an idea and within two months, Alexa formed The Book Refinery - and has never looked back. Her and her team have now worked on hundreds of books, from business 'how to', to fiction and childrens' publications. They are passionate about helping people become authors and they strive to produce the best looking books possible.

Getting mentioned in the Acknowledgments always makes me smile, and this wonderful book is almost ready for print!

When you work with a typesetter who has extensive design knowledge and uses the tools that can make your book stand out (and more importantly, easier to read) your book is going to look super professional.

“Designers” who use cookie cutter templates can’t offer bespoke layout options, like box outs, bespoke chapter heads, a myriad of bullet options etc.

Real design comes from years of experience and proper design platforms.

If you’ve invested time and money on writing don’t let the design (readability) let it down.

Need help getting your book out there? I have numerous support packages, from writing coaching, editing and design services.

George is the co-creator of the WIP journal that we released almost 5 years ago!

He then wrote another book, and asked if I would design it. It only then won an award at The Business Book Awards.

Well done George Anderson!

Love, love, love my job!

Which woodlouse expression/pose is your favourite?

Rather than illustrating a full page, I’ve broken the scene down and drawn elements separately. So all these fun illustrations of woodlouse belong in scenes through the book and have been shrunk down in editing.

So this lovely author has ANOTHER book in the making!

I love working on these books and is both writer and illustrator.

All her books are on her website - so go give her a follow if you love animal@adventures or have small@ones learning piano!

Tony came to me asking for help getting his book ready for Amazon Kindle.

He told me the synopsis of the book - and I worked on the cover…

The feedback he’s been getting is fabulous and I’m so happy to have helped him get the right vibe and feel for the story.

His Instagram strategy has used the cover in a really eye catching way.

You can find him on A work of fiction by Tony Morris 📖
