There are over 50 newborn car seats on the market right now. 😮‍💨

Influencer posts. comparison sites. Well-meaning family members with strong opinions. No wonder it feels impossible to know where to start.

Here’s what I tell every parent who comes to me: you don’t need to know everything about car seats. You just need to know what’s right for your baby, your car, and your life.

Really, it comes down to three questions:
1️⃣ infant carrier, or a seat that stays in the car?
2️⃣ ISOFIX, or seatbelt installation?
3️⃣ which specific seat fits your car, your child, and your life?

I’m going to walk through all the details over the next few posts - follow along so you don’t miss it. 💜

Not sure where to start right now? DM me ‘newborn’ and I’ll help you figure out the right first step.

This footage from the Axkid conference shows exactly why I bang on about extended rear facing so much. Watch what happens to a forward facing child’s head and neck in a crash versus rear facing.

A rear facing seat cradles your child’s head, neck and spine, spreading the force across the whole back of the seat. Forward facing, that force throws their head forward while their tiny neck takes the strain.

This is why little ones are safer rear facing, and why in Sweden children stay rear facing until around 4+. It’s not overprotective. It’s just safer.

Your car seat’s minimum forward facing age is exactly that - a minimum, not a recommendation. If your little one still fits within the rear facing limits, keep them there as long as you can.

Not sure how long your seat allows? That’s what we’re here for. Free fit checks and installation support, always - the PLUS PROMISE. 🚗

One of the biggest mistakes I see parents make is choosing their child’s next car seat based on age alone.

“She’s 15 months now.”
“He’s nearly 4.”
“They’re starting school.”

The problem? None of those things tell me whether a seat is actually the right fit.

When I recommend a car seat, I look at three things:

📏 Height centile
⚖️ Weight centile
🚗 Vehicle compatibility

Because a tall child may outgrow a 105cm seat much sooner than expected.

Because a heavier child may be better suited to a seatbelt-installed seat with a higher weight limit.

Because not every seat fits every car safely, even if it looks like it should.

The safest car seat isn’t the most popular one.
It isn’t the one your friend bought.
And it definitely isn’t the one chosen based on age alone.

It’s the seat that fits your child and your specific vehicle properly.

Not sure what’s next for your little one?

📩 Send me your child’s age, height, weight and your car make/model, and I’ll point you in the right direction.

If you’ve been putting off extended rear facing because you think the installation looks complicated, watch this.

The Axkid Minikid 4 Max is fitted using your vehicle’s seatbelt and lower tethers, but Axkid’s self-tightening tether straps do most of the hard work for you, removing slack as you push the seat into position.

✅ Rear facing to 125cm / 36kg
✅ Swedish Plus Tested
✅ Fits a huge range of vehicles
✅ Excellent legroom
✅ Installation made simpler with self-tightening tethers

At some point in parenthood, someone will tell you that rear facing is only for babies.

They’ll tell you their child turned forward facing at 9 months and was “absolutely fine”.

They’ll tell you children are uncomfortable rear facing.

They’ll tell you their legs are too long.

Last month I stood inside the VTI crash testing facility in Sweden and watched exactly what happens in a crash.

The reason rear facing is recommended for longer isn’t opinion. It’s physics.

In a collision, a rear facing seat supports the child’s head, neck and spine, spreading crash forces across the strongest parts of their body. A forward facing child experiences significantly higher forces through the neck.

That’s why Sweden has some of the lowest child road fatality rates in the world.

And it’s why extended rear facing seats exist.

So when someone tells you rear facing is only for babies, remember they’re sharing an opinion.

The engineers, crash test data and decades of research say otherwise.

Have you been told your child is “too old” to rear face? 👇

I’ve tried a lot of baby carriers over the years, but this is the first one that’s genuinely made me think:

“Why hasn’t anyone done this sooner?”

The new Voksi Huddle is designed to go on like a jacket, making babywearing quicker and simpler for busy parents.

I travelled to London this week to learn more about it and get hands-on with the carrier myself, and I can already see why so many parents are excited about it.

What do you think… would you try a carrier that zips on like a jacket?

Comment HUDDLE and I’ll send you over the link.

👀 Keep an eye on the page too. I may have brought something home from London that you’ll want to win…
