Evesham Micros Limited. I just heard that my dishonest, thieving and embezzling business partner, Richard Austin, has died. Whilst I get no pleasure from this, I am also not in the slightest way troubled by the news.
A business with a partner requires a certain amount of trust, imagine how disappointed I was when the Inland Revenue approached me to let me know large amounts of cash had been taken from the business without my knowledge, documented theft of at least £160k.
No police action, as I was able to invoke a shareholder agreement he signed the first time I uncovered irregularities. Price Waterhouse took over the day to day running of the business until all my 50% had been paid back in 1994.
Austin was often credited with establishing the company, this was not true, he was under investigation for unpaid VAT when I started Waltone Limited, later to be renamed Evesham Micros Limited. Because of this, my founding partner was Austin's wife, Maureen.
Together we made a very profitable company in spite of his dislike of mail order "Who is going to send money in the post for computers? he famously said to me. We rose to be the 11th largest supplier of PCs in the UK according to The Daily Telegraph.
My betrayal by the "light fingered" Austin on several occasions, can now be put into the annals of history. I will sleep soundly tonight. That's me, founder Robert Hitchcock, on the picture.

The Jupiter Ace was one micro we didn't stock, saving poor children from the disappointment of not getting a Sinclair Spectrum like all their friends. Released/Escaped 1982. Like many other home computers of the era, it utilized the Zilog Z80 microprocessor. Known for its distinct white case and visual similarity to the ZX Spectrum, the Ace differed from other microcomputers of the time in that it used Forth instead of the more popular BASIC.

Through the mists of time, I can no longer remember what we called this, maybe Disk Doubler, It all came about when the 3M salesman told me that single sided floppy disks came off the same line as double sided disks., so they were all actually double sided. I sent a hole punch to a Chinese OEM company and they came up with 3 prototypes with a square hole. We sold them for £9.95 each, which I must admit was a bit of a rip off, but people were quite happy with the price and getting double the storage for "free".

Happy Birthday Oric-1, 43 years old 1.09.1982
A dedicated following for a robust product from Tangerine Computer Systems. Not too sure why people went for this over the Spectrum, but it did have a good following and a lot of games and programs were converted to run on it.

The Acorn Electron. 42nd anniversary of the computer for people who couldn't afford a BBC B. This seemed to appeal to strange people who wore sandals with socks, and cardigans with leather arm patches. Many unhappy children were forced by their parents to have one of these rather than a Commodore 64. Heavily advertised on the BBC in their computer programmes. Poorly supported by software, not really for entertainment. Virtually no profit margin, and always supply difficulties.
