How quick are you to trust a new service?

The BBC just reported the most powerful tech brands in finance (and beyond, hello Duolingo 🦉) are starting to look a little less serious

Should fintech be paying attention?

You could develop a mascot for differentiation, push a new cutie for ‘emotional connection’, but only if being less serious makes sense

I remember in one of my fintech event roles, our styling year on year would be wacky, and almost random - but it worked because it became super worthwhile to share on socials for attendees

Since, the brand has aligned closer to more natural ’tech’ theming.

I’d be curious to learn if this has impacted experience + organic social sharing events. Are the fun-tech vibes off, or has it gone unnoticed with the audience? 🤔

I know myself, some of these little mascots irritate me if i’m navigating a platform for the first time. Do you remember what a pest ‘clippy’ was? Leave me alone 🤣

‘Any questions for me?’

Yeah actually, a big one.

Asked him to name what success would look like before we discussed proposal writing. (A specific ticket sale number)

He went a bit 🤔

I don’t think he’d been asked that before by a designer, but this is the fire behind everything I do, really.

I need to know why I’m designing, or it doesn’t make any sense to write a proposal 🤣

➡️ **Social Font Styling** - which preset, how do they ensure they’re on brand with colour selections.

🪩 **Social Filters** - pre selecting go-to filters that align with your client’s new branding or creation of an all-new filter.

💻 **Web Safe Fonts** - the typography styling you’ve crafted may be stunning. but what about when it comes to email footers, creating compatibile word docs and ensuring high-speed websites?

🕺🏼 **Social GIFs** - presets again, can be selected. how about creating a custom set of searchable GIFs for your client?

💸 **Subscriptions** - I’m not talking retainers, although they’re a great way to build recurring income. If you’re a design studio that advocates for accessible design and set your clients up on Canva, including a year of premium subcription can be the one element that increases your conversion massively.

Year 3 of Studio Caitlin. It’s time to refocus and deliver a clear vision for our community of rule-breaking business owners. Driven by authentic connection between designer & brand owner, each identity launch we build is supported with a bespoke collection of future-proof deliverables.

Revisions and push-backs can feel like a punch in the gut 🫡

You’ve worked up what you believe to be the best possible work for your clients and suddenly, they’re not so sure.

Over the last 3 years as a freelance graphic designer I’ve learnt to not take feedback personally - I’m grateful that business owners can be honest and now I go with the flow.

Naturally, sometimes a suggestion goes against our brand strategy discussions and I’ll advise otherwise, but it all ends up great in the end.

🕺🏼 What to expect from businesses design wise this year

From eyes on the inside, it's exciting to see how Founders & Marketing Managers are incorporating design into their business strategies this year.

So what’s shaping up so far?

📈 High demand for templates to streamline internal processes
(Utilising software like Canva)

⚖️ More reliance on ad-hoc support from freelancers
(supporting the in-house team while keeping headcount low)

🍄 Embracing unconventional designs (loove!)

🎯 Outsourcing to tackle stagnant projects
(My personal fav type of project. Attack something dated, begging for fresh eyes)

Overall, I’m a big fan of these these shifts & I can see these sticking around for a little while.

Here’s to embracing change 🤙
