🥳 TRAINEE SITE LAUNCH 🥳

Organised all your kids activities for summer yet?

Well I can’t mention .wakeham’s training yesterday without mentioning ’s today, as Jayne’s site has actually already launched! Excellent work!

The founder of this business went through 5 weeks of Squarespace training with me and did an incredible job creating her own website with no prior experience of web building.

Jayne and I first worked together some five years ago when she came to me to brand her after school cooking club. After discovering that there was much more to Jayne than cooking we rebranded her business to be ‘Grow Cook Enjoy’ after which she went on a business expansion that saw her move into more schools and take on staff.

Her message is simple and I love it - let’s make producers, not consumers. She’s all about teaching young people how to grow their own food and then cook with it.

So if you’re still searching round for ideas this summer to entertain the kids then go follow her to find out when her clubs are running near you. You’ll need to be in Surrey UK though!

SNEAK PEAK NEW PRODUCT

Got the perfect make-up bag for summer travels?
––––––––––––––––––
Earlier on this year I trained a talented creative, .wakeham, on how to use Squarespace so that she could be in control of launching her own product line.

Kate is an experienced graphic designer who’s always dreamed of using her skills to create something for herself. Over the past few years she’s worked away at pattern making and is now about to launch her own bag range and embark on some pretty exciting interior design collaborations.

I can’t tell you how much I wish her every success in getting her new brand off the ground. She’s not far off launching the site, which will include ecommerce, and at her last training session she gifted me one of her wonderful, imperfectly patterned bags, which you can see here.

So thank you and best of luck to you - very excited to see things grow!

Ps. If there’s anyone out there who dreams of starting their own thing or has done it and knows how much work it is, then please show her some support and go follow her if you aren’t already!

New logotype…

This time, my own!

So at the start of the year I took the strategic decision to change my business name from ‘The Utility’ to ‘The Utility Studio’. A relatively small change but one that’s taken a lot to implement! And hopefully one that will have been worthwhile and go towards positioning me and my work in the right place - I can hardly talk about the importance of branding when I’m missing one of the biggest tricks in the book myself.

In this fast scrolling world I was concerned that people were passing me by as I had no reference in my name as to where I sat in the world. I choose ‘studio’ as the appendage to my business name as I don’t, and won’t in the future, just do website design so ‘The Utility Websites’ doesn’t have longevity or even cover it. Myself and the specialists I team up with work across various platforms, websites being just one of them. The term ‘Studio’ places my business in the creative industries which is spot on, I use creativity and design to help businesses reach their goals.

The logotype isn’t immediately legible but does this matter? The answer for my business is no, but this is a whole other debate! Have you ever changed your business name or are you considering it?

SOUND ON!

Whoop! It’s the weekend!

Having fun learning procreate, which is what I used to do this little type animation. What an amazing tool. Some frustrations, but I am new to it so that’s to be expected.

I’m not just off for the weekend, I’m off for a week with my kids as it’s half term here in the UK.

My mac is going into ‘experts’ today, to be given the once over as it’s not happy, and hasn’t been for quite some time. I can no longer ignore it. It’s a bit of a mare to be honest and it’s time to get something done about it. Fingers crossed it can sorted for zero outlay… am I dreaming?
