Hello everyone!
We git this Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 Gen10 coming in after it cut out and refuse to come back on.
A quick check with the USB c meter showing the board would only draw 5V indicated a motherboard issue. 🤨
We rapidly identified a shorted rail and tried to identify where the short was located. The first thermal cam imaging led us to a capacitor going hot. But once removed, we found the rail was still shorted. 🧐
Upon further investigation, in turns out the heat we were detected was actually coming from another capacitor on the other side of the motherboard! 😅
We removed that second capacitor and could see the rails was no longer shorted. We fitted a replacement and reassembled the computer.
The computer turned on, booted up normally, we then checked the all the elements of the computer and even ran a combined stress test on the CPU and RAM and we can give the computer the thumb up! 👍😁
