Hello everyone!
We git this Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 Gen10 coming in after it cut out and refuse to come back on.
A quick check with the USB c meter showing the board would only draw 5V indicated a motherboard issue. π€¨
We rapidly identified a shorted rail and tried to identify where the short was located. The first thermal cam imaging led us to a capacitor going hot. But once removed, we found the rail was still shorted. π§
Upon further investigation, in turns out the heat we were detected was actually coming from another capacitor on the other side of the motherboard! π
We removed that second capacitor and could see the rails was no longer shorted. We fitted a replacement and reassembled the computer.
The computer turned on, booted up normally, we then checked the all the elements of the computer and even ran a combined stress test on the CPU and RAM and we can give the computer the thumb up! ππ
