Tidelines at The Hydro

To celebrate Tidelines 10th anniversary, the band played the biggest show of their career {so far} at the Hydro. We like the band having worked with them for a number of years and were more than happy to support them with the video side of what turned out to be a somewhat vast production. We provided a upstage Led screen of 7 separate 4m strips and Portrait imag screens with full camera package. As there were 2 separate stages we had 9 cameras allowing shots of both the main and b stage .

Cutting cameras to screens taller than they are wide is a totally different approach as there's no such thing as a 2 shot or usable wide but in the context of the overall design it worked well and it certainly looked the part and the camera team did a great job under Erin's direction. The curveball of the band performing part of the set on a second stage with their backs to the cameras was covered nicely by a couple of well placed Ptzs.

It was ambitious and delivered under reasonable time pressure as other parts ran a bit late , but very happy with the results so a big thanks to the camera and led team of Erin, Elldon, Frazer, Andy, Iain Allan, Craig and Lee .

Lots of LED...

We just provided the video production for the EAIE event at Glasgow's Hydro. With 7,000 delegates it's an absolutely massive event and we were tasked with delivering the LED and projection. The main screen was a 14m / 4m slab of Roe Topaz 2.6 powered by a pair of Brompton S40s fed from our Kairos system which delivered all the pixel to pixel full screen content and backgrounds and dealt with switching content and cameras to the various pips whilst also feeding a separate mix to two further 6m / 3.5m Roe 2.6.

The main screen was accompanied by a further 4 x 14m strips of gloshine 3.9, so when you add it all up thats a lot of LED, all done from stock, all faultlessly executed and resulted in high fives all round from the client.

Did we mention the projection mapping onto the giant letters ? I believe that was the icing on the cake.....

Edinburgh Psych Fest

We just provided the visual assistance at the Edinburgh Psych Fest and a most pleasing day out was had by the Warpro team.

The reactions have been somewhat favourable and I think we managed to provide something that was not only in keeping with the music, but also completely different to what you normally see at your modern pop music concert. Obviously having a double stacked pair of Panasonic RQ45s blasting the 16m wide c*c with ultrabright saturated colour is a pretty good start, but with no more than a few carefully prepared clips, some stills, an oscilloscope and three cameras we managed to generate 4 hours of original video.

For Gwenno, the whole show was pretty much just video feedback and it worked... as great fun to do and it was an incredible gig start to finish. We will be back next year and given a bit of planning will provide another analogue lightshow delivered in the high quality digital way.

We just built a 4 sided led "cube" for the filming of the finale of a well known international game show series. It's a 7m / 4m truss structure with 84m2 of led panels applied to the outside. It's one of those things that doesn't look that big until you realise its 2 x 18 tonne trucks - loads of kit, but it all went up without a hitch proving yet again that with just enough planning plus the right kit and people to put it in, things don't need to be difficult.

We would show you pictures of the thing in action with the actual content, but then you'd know all the answers and it would spoil the whole series...

Thanks to Filming Scotland for the opportunity and Craig, Skye, Allan, SM Lighting, Nightsky and Showtec for the support.

So here's a video of The B-52s playing Rock Lobster at The Barrowland Ballroom.

We provided a Roe Topaz Led wall, but surely we shouldn't need an excuse to post this...

Big Telly

We were engaged by the SEC to provide video for the "Our Moment" World Cup events in the Hydro and when the request for "the Largest Screen possible" came in we were able to meet it as a team effort between
ourselves and Nightsky as we are batch partners on Gloshine 3.9.

The screen ended up being a whopping 18m wide by 10m high or 360 panels. This is by far the biggest single volume we have been involved with and wasn't without challenges brought about by the sheer size, weight,
number of pixels etc etc , but with just enough planning and the right people in the right places all went off without a hitch.

We also provided a full Imag and playback package for the 2hr pre-game show and we're really happy with everyones' efforts in delivering the AV package.

Probably the most pleasing thing is that all the people and all the gear to do it traveled at most 50 miles as there are companies like ourselves and Nightsky making a real investment here in Scotland to properly support the more ambitious productions and that's got to be a good thing.

New stuff No2

Novastar MX30 Videowall controllers - New in is a brace of shiny new Novastar things that allow the nova based Led panel to be fully fandangled using the almost user friendly COEX software. Now we have always been Brompton based here so relatively spoiled when it comes to the LED processing side of things, but as a dry hire company who may also be getting a whole load of a more cost effective LED panels shortly, its a wise investment...

So in the space of a couple of days we delivered three very different LED jobs.

First was a 3m / 3m square led on a bespoke ground support so it floated just above the floor installed into Jupiter Artland for John Gerrard's Flare (Oceania) as in the current Extraction exhibition (https://www.jupiterartland.org/art/extraction). JA is always worth a visit and this is a particularly arresting work. We designed and built the custom support from scratch and seeing it installed its been worth the extra effort .

Next was a Conference for BK (https://www.bk-ep.com) in Edinburgh. This was a 10m wide by 3m high screen but with smoothly curved ends framing a 7m flat centre section. Looked absolutely smashing installed and the double curve at each end made all the difference.

After rigging all that we were through in Glasgow's legendary Barrowland Ballroom for a sell out show with Sammy Virji. We squeezed in a 7m / 4m screen and added a couple of PTZ cameras to add a bit of interest to the VJ setup.

So the common thread linking the precision and detail of the gallery setup, high-end corporate conference and a full on rave was all used our Roe Topaz 2.6 panels on Brompton processing deployed in completely different ways but delivering the required results in a effortless manner. I think the lesson here is if you go for the best product you can and have enough of it combined with a small amount of planning even a bunch of barely competents can look like they know what their doing...
