SMAR Azure was founded in February 2001 by Dr. Sabrina Malpede and Dr. Alessandro Rosiello. It was developed in order to utilise the award-winning technology developed by Dr.Malpede during her doctorate in 1997.In 2004 Dr.Donald MacVicar joined the company and since then the team has grown substantially allowing the company technology and products to be enhanced constantly. Since it's inception, the company has worked in close relationships with sail and rig designers to produce design software applications tailored to their individual needs. Today, SMAR Azure’s products are considered as the most reliable, robust and user-friendly software for sail and rig design currently available. SMAR Azure currently has a customer base of over 200 users in 30 countries in various segments of the yachting industry.

One of our most important software Smar Azure is celebrating its 20th anniversary today.

When it started in October 2004, there was a clear need for a user-friendly sail design software, which not only provided panels to be cut by a machine, but also offered tools to make sails going faster. In the past, it was a huge waste to make more and more "test sails", among other things we can thank Smar Azure for the fact that this step has now become unnecessary.

The software has developed a lot and become the market leader in the last 2 decades, and of course it does not work by itself, it is difficult to manage it well and at a high level. Fortunately, Smar is also a partner in this: it provides continuous training.

We are already part of the second 10 years. They have built a wonderful community of sail designers, we have a lot to thank them for.
