After seven years of quoting for this project, in numerous variations, we finally got the go ahead to fix The Pilot Inns rogue parking problem. The Pilot Inn now has a fully automated car park barrier system on a free to enter and free to exit ground loop sensor, which the exit sensor is only active for five minutes after a vehicle has entered the car park. This allows visitors to exit freely if they find the car park full on arrival. Patrons will have the keypad code, to be found on the bottom of their receipts, allowing them to let them selves out. Any rogue parkers will have to use the intercom to ask if they can be let out. Oh the shame!!!
The barriers boom is also secured in the closed position, via a magnetic lock, so there can be no vandalism to the barrier if someone is in the car park that shouldn’t have been.
It was a very long time coming but Simon & Lisa are chuffed to bits with their new car park barrier and with the ease of using it daily, updating the patron code weekly via an app on their smart device makes it a breeze.

Well that’s a fun way to spend a Sunday??!! The Exit Loop we installed nearly two years ago got damaged by another civils team 🤦‍♂️ But never fear, Cherry’s here!! Last week we started the process of removing the non commercial grade automation system, install new ducting, that isn’t only 50mm below the driveway surface, and carry out the first fix of this new compliant commercial grade automation installation. Our new customer was recommended to us last year by an excellent IP Based intercom company called Doorbird. He had an issue with his intercom which we duly fixed. Whilst on site our new customer asked if there was anything we could do to resolve a very odd design flaw on his automated sliding gate? Why of course we can, we’re the bestest Cherrys in all the land!!
The old design caused the top guide to continually fill up with leaves and twigs stopping the gate from working. The solution was courtesy of our Cherry design and being crafted by the marvellous chaps 😍
This new bespoke powder coated stainless steel top guide and support roller bracket looks like it’s always been there.

Super early start today to get the exit loop sensor cut and sealed into the base layer of tarmac before Hailsham Roadways arrived on site to put the final top layer of tarmac down. The 5am alarm was not so nice, but the post job fry up was very nice!!! 🤤😍

This project is definitely a test of endurance for us and our customer. Last year, whilst breaking ground to form the gates concrete pad stones, the mains power supply to Glynde Village was discovered at just 400mm below the surface and it just so happened to be exactly in line with the location of our LH gate post!!
As the driveway could not be reconfigured any other way the only option left was for the National Power Network to come and re-route the supply to the village, which was no small feat!
Thankfully we were able to carry on where we left off in the New Year but were then faced with the wettest January & February we have had in years. Considering the adversity we faced we have still made good progress and are hopeful that this project will finally be completed within the next two weeks. 🙏
Here’s some photos of our progress to give you an idea of what’s involved in a project like this.
Please note that the customer did not want the gates or posts being galvanised, which was against our recommendations. They will instead have their maintenance team hand paint them black. As us Cherrys always go above and beyond we applied anti corrosion paint on the areas where their team will not be able to get to i.e. below the curb line and behind our hardware. Feels odd fitting gates without them being galvanised, first time in the 22 years of Cherry Gates 🍒
It does not detract from the excellent fabrication work by EMS though. Beautiful synergy between us Cherrys and The EMS Team. Millimetre perfection 💪💪💪😍🍒 This is The Cherry Way.
