Hello All,
Mike from Eco’ Tech Solutions here.
As it says in the ‘about’ section of my page, my goal is to bring your seemingly old tech as up to date as possible, whilst keeping things as Eco’ friendly as possible…
Believe it or not, your ‘old’ desktop PC or laptop from 10 years ago, still has some life left to live! Through some simple, inexpensive, upgrades these machines can be brought back from sluggish paperweights, to snappy, very capable computers again.
So what do I mean by Eco’ friendly? If you're thinking ‘good for the planet’, you’re actually half right!
Many of the components and semi precious metals in old computers are very difficult to harvest, so they can’t be easily recycled. This means the computer, you think is past its sell by date, will inevitably end up becoming e-waste and contributing to landfill. In the ‘replace before fixing’ culture we belong to nowadays the problem is unfortunately only getting worse.
The best practice, wherever possible, is always to give these machines the second chance they deserve. Many of them are still very capable pieces of hardware, that, with a little work, can keep doing what they were designed to do. The longer we can keep them from becoming e-waste, at least until the processes of stripping and recycling them for useable materials become readily available, the better for the environment!
So what’s the second half of Eco’? Simply put, in many ways, it is far more economically sound for you, as the consumer, to go the route of upgrade as opposed to replace. The difference in the cost of parts and a little labour to bring your existing tech back to life, compared to outright replacing it, can be astounding. Especially from a performance perspective relevant to your needs…
This is assuming your needs are being carefully considered by the salesperson telling you to dump your old machine for the latest and greatest to hit sales targets. Or the budget options you’ll find in PC World/Argos that look tempting but aren’t worth the cost of the raw materials used to make them! They are designed to cut costs on key components and by removing any upgrade path they could have had so the manufacturer could produce them at a particular price point. I’ve worked on many of these and, believe me, they're really not worth the hassle!
With that in mind, here is my promise to you:
I will never up sell, or up charge, the parts required for your project. I will, on request, prove any cost of parts with receipts.
I will never quote beyond the bear minimum of what your system requires to get back on its feet and useable. However, I will gladly offer you a list of nice to haves if you are interested in a little more performance.
Last, but not least, I will always be competitive with labour costs.
It really is that simple.
If you’d like to know more about how I work, or what other services I offer, feel free to pop me a message.
I’ve been Mike, and I look forward to helping you with your tech needs soon 🙂
