What Causes Corrosion in a Leisure Vehicle?

When we discuss corrosion with customers, many understandably state that there has been no water ingress, leakage, or liquid spillage within their vehicle - and in many cases they are absolutely correct.

Corrosion does not necessarily require a visible leak or spillage. One of the most common and overlooked causes is condensation.

Condensation occurs when warm, moisture-laden air comes into contact with colder surfaces within the vehicle. This can result in microscopic or invisible moisture deposits forming on metal components, fixings, chassis sections, electrical connections and other vulnerable areas. Over time, repeated exposure to moisture can initiate oxidation and accelerate the corrosion process.

Leisure Vehicles are particularly susceptible because they are relatively enclosed environments. Occupants introduce additional water vapour simply through normal activities such as breathing, cooking and drying damp clothing. In colder conditions, the temperature difference between the interior air and the vehicle structure can significantly increase the potential for condensation.

There are moisture-absorbing products which can help control humidity in specific areas but should not be considered a complete solution. The most effective approach is controlled, targeted ventilation combined with regular air circulation. Allowing moisture-laden air to escape and replacing it with drier air helps reduce relative humidity and limits the amount of moisture available to condense on cold surfaces.

And yes - breathing a little less may help too!!

We’re continually engaging with our customers to understand their evolving requirements, identify recurring challenges, and turn practical feedback into engineered solutions.

A great example came from a customer looking for a replacement for the worn buttons on an older control panel. The panel itself was still fully functional - the issue was simply that the original buttons had deteriorated through years of use. Rather than replace an otherwise serviceable panel, we explored the feasibility of developing, manufacturing and 3D printing replacement components.

The result was a precision replacement button designed to restore functionality while extending the operational life of existing equipment. What started as a customer suggestion has since become one of our best-selling products of 2026.

That’s the value of customer-led innovation: a simple idea can become a practical cost-effective solution with genuine demand.

Have an idea for a product or replacement component - feel free to pop up a message.

ZF0251, ZF0268, ZF0271, and other similar control panels are incredibly vulnerable to damage to the flexi. Pinching the flexi between the wall and control panel fascia, and catching the flexi with the screw are both very common mistakes that are made during installation. As seen in the 1st and 4th photos, there is very minimal damage required to stop these control panels working. We also offer our own replacement, with no flexi to break!

Looks can be deceiving!
Despite this looking unrepairable from the front, the back tells a different story. This customer can be offered a repair, rather than buying new.

What do you think about using AI for diagnosis? It certainly is not perfectly reliable, so be aware!

1. Claude told a customer that their mains on LED was not working just because they had lithium batteries.

2. Google AI told a customer that there is a capacitor inside their E-Box which is making the E-Display screen fail, and to replace the CR2032 cell on the E-Display.

3. Chat GPT told a customer that their control panel display problem was because of a faulty fridge.
