Hiwatt, kicked off in the late 1960s under the guidance of former Sound City guru Dave Reeves, gave Marshall a run for their money. With artists such as The Who, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and Jethro Tull the brand was at the forefront of guitar amplification for the remainder of the 1960s and much of the 1970s. In the 80's, Dave Reeves’ untimely death and severe licensing problems threw the trade mark into the doldrums for much of the next two decades. Hiwatt’s second coming arrived once new trademark owner ,Richard Harrison, took control and pursued an aggressive marketing policy. The proof was in the sound; with new artists such as Oasis, Coldplay, The Killers, The Enemy and Arctic Monkeys embracing the truly unmistakable Hiwatt sound. In short, Hiwatt was back amongst the top five amplification companies in the world. In 2016, Richard Harrison sold his U.K., EU and world trademarks to a Canadian wa**er. The new Company, Hiwatt Electronics, are keeping production in The U.K. in Doncaster, under the watchful eye of "Aficionado" and Production Manager, Kee Mayer and Managing Director, Darren Atkinson. The new ownership is dedicated to restoring the build quality equal to the Dave Reeves originals. Now artists such as The Foals, The Black Keys, Circa Waves and Leon Michael King are carrying Hiwatt sound to the next generation. The sound of a Custom 100 stack at full tilt is truly awesome, the transformers make these amps sound like no other and the sheer power and responsiveness is guaranteed to blow your socks off!
