Some people you meet in life leave you with stories you’ll tell forever. Shaun Gallagher was one of those people. ❤️
We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of our great family friend, Shaun.
Shaun was a former Mayor of Derry. He was a proud Derry man who fought hard for the people of Shantallow and gave so much of himself to the community he loved.
But when I think of Shaun, it won’t be the titles or the politics that come to mind first.
It’ll be the CRAIC!
The laughs. The slagging. The conversations that could go absolutely anywhere. The kind of craic that you just don’t forget.
Shaun was the best of craic and a great friend to our family over many years. He was one of those people you were always glad to bump into because you knew you weren’t getting away without a story, a laugh, or both.
And Shaun certainly had a story to tell.
He knew Derry, he knew its people, and he cared deeply about both. Behind all the public life was a warm, funny and larger than life character who meant an awful lot to our family.
We’ll remember the laughs and the stories, and we’ll be telling a few of them ourselves for many years to come.
Thanks for all the trips to Bundoran, and for somehow trusting Shaun, Stephen and all their muckers to “watch the house” while you and Majella decided to take a wee scoot down to the caravan. 🤣
Some of the best memories were made in that house…and for the record, there was absolutely no drinking whatsoever… that’s our story and we’re sticking to it. 😭
I’ll miss you deeply Shaun. Even writing this with all the memories running through my head, I’ve tears in my eyes.
You were one of a kind and you’ll be sorely missed. ❤️
Our love and thoughts are with Majella, Shaun, Stephen, Shea and Samantha ❤️
Rest easy Shaun. Thanks for the stories, thanks for the craic, and most of all, thanks for the friendship. ❤️
