One of my customers recently received a WhatsApp message claiming their account needed to be verified otherwise it would be closed.

THIS IS A SCAM

The code sent to the user was actually to authorise moving the account to a different SIM.
If the code had been passed to the hacker the user would have lost access to their WhatsApp.
It can prove incredibly difficult to regain access.

You should ignore any WhatsApp requests that look like this, any doubts just let me know.
You should also add a PIN code to your WhatsApp account, that gives an added level of protection.
You should NEVER give the PIN code to anyone, even WhatsApp.

If you have an Office 365 email or software account please be wary of a convincing phishing scam that is around at the moment.
A few customers have contacted me regarding this same email.

The email claims to be from Office 365 and that a request has been received to deactivate your account.

DO NOT FOLLOW the link!!!
It will take you to a clone of the Office login page.
DO NOT ENTER ANY DETAILS INTO THIS PAGE.

If you receive any email that claims to be regarding logging into your account and updating setting DO NOT CLICK THE LINK!

If you are a user of WhatsApp please keep reading, if not, another coffee is the order of the day! 😊

This is not some bogus chain message, the threat is real and only you can protect your account.

Sorry to always be a bringer of bad tidings, but this is an important WhatsApp security problem.
One of my customers, who is by nature very cautious, has just had their WhatsApp account hacked.
Another person managed to take over control and lock them out.

The hacker sends you a message, WhatsApp or SMS, it is sent from one of your known contacts who has previously been hacked.
You are told that you may receive a code in error, could you please send it onto them.
At this point they are trying to transfer your WhatsApp account to their number.
NEVER SEND ANY VERIFICATION CODES TO ANYONE, EVEN PEOPLE YOU KNOW.

To mitigate this type of attack I’m recommending EVERYONE activates additional security within WhatsApp.
It’s very simple to do and might save you a world of hurt.
• Open WhatsApp
• Tap the 3 dots menu in the top corner.
• Tap Settings
• Tap Account
• Tap Two-Step verification
• You can now enter a six digit PIN number.
(Make sure you can remember this PIN, you will be asked for it from time to time).
• Enter your email address.

Now two-step is active it becomes much, much harder for an attacker to compromise your account.

We all know how great WhatsApp is, but did you know that you can get an app to install on your PC or Mac?

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few years, the chances are you’ll be a WhatsApp user. It’s a great messaging & communications application, that has nudged Skype out a most people’s app of choice. The basic reasons it’s so good are simple, it just does what it is suppose...

What IT experts have been calling "Black Monday" has rocked the foundations of modern Wi-Fi connectivity. Basically ALL Wi-Fi devices using WPA2 (and that's is most devices) have a fundamental security flaw, allowing hackers to get full access to your data as you browse.
Is this as bad as it sounds? Most probably, but the main locations for vulnerability will be public Wi-Fi like cafes etc.
The only fix for this is a worldwide update of all devices using WPA2 Wi-Fi, and that is a lot of work.
So expect urgent updates to routers, hotspots, PCs, phones and tables!
As long as your device is updated and fixed you are safe.

Not ones for the "tinfoil hat" theories, but sometimes the corporations go a little too far. Whilst tracking some strange Google search results we came across a page that shows your entire location history, as tracked by your Android smartphone.
You can look back days or years and see exactly where you were, down to the minute.
Obviously this is to "help with Google services", but it looks more like snooping to us.
Take a look at your here: https://www.google.com/maps/timeline
Just sign in with your google account and be worried about what they are keeping. You can pause and delete the history, which is where we are heading now.

Well it's been a while coming, but it looks like the mother of all security failures has landed!
It's called the HeartBleed bug, and it has left HUGE number of sites vulnerable. This is NOT a minor event, it is almost certain that your password will have been vulnerable somewhere on the internet.
Check out this list of the main sites to see if you are affected.
