Things to think about re. Covid-19:

- Set up online shopping with your usual supermarket

- If you share a computer among family members, clean both mouse and keyboard after every session

- Skype/FaceTime and similar video services provide a great way of staying in touch with people when it is inadvisable to visit

A warning on thunderstorms: quite a number of people in Heysham were hit by severe thunderstorms last week. With phone landlines down, routers fried and even TVs shorted out, this was unusually severe. More storms are expected in this area late on Sunday: to protect your equipment, be sure to unplug from the mains anything not urgently needed, including PCs, laptops, routers, and yes, even TVs. While surge-protected plugs and strips can help, you should not rely on them as they will not cope with direct lightning strikes.

Came across an old friend the other day - Windows pre-boot password. This is a very old security feature in Windows that is never used - asks for a password before Windows fully loads. As far as I know it is a result of malware, some rogue ransomware. No fix, a clean reinstall needed. That was a Win 8 machine (not even 8.1) - seems to be fixed for most now, just reinforces the need to update.
