Before you spend another £1 on Google Ads, can you track what happens after the click?

Most businesses can tell you how many clicks they got last month. Fewer can say how many turned into an enquiry. Very few can say which ones became customers.

That gap is where budget quietly disappears. Google reports on its own job, which is delivering the click. Whether that click was worth anything to you is a different question, and the platform cannot answer it on its own.

Conversion tracking closes the gap. Once it is set up properly you stop guessing which campaigns to protect and which to switch off.

If your conversion tracking is unclear, we can help you fix the blind spots. Send us a message and we will take a look.

Everyone's off today. Your website isn't.

While you're in the garden pretending you haven't seen your emails, it's sat there doing the only job it has. Somebody is looking you up on their phone at half eleven on a bank holiday, because they've had an idea about their kitchen and they'd like to know whether you do that sort of thing.

That's the whole point of it. Your website works every hour you don't.

Which is worth a thought, because an awful lot of small business websites were built by someone's mate. Not badly, necessarily. It was 2019, they knew their way around WordPress, they did you a favour, and you gave them two hundred quid and a bottle of something decent. Then they got a proper job up country and stopped replying.

So now nobody knows the login. Nothing has been updated since the second lockdown. The contact form goes to an email address belonging to someone who left. And the number in the footer is the old one.

Free thing you can do today, takes two minutes. Open your own website on your phone. Not your laptop, your phone. Count how long it takes to load, then try to find your phone number without pinching, zooming or scrolling for a fortnight. That's the experience nearly every one of your customers is having.

If that made you wince slightly, it's fixable, and it's far less painful than you're imagining.

We build websites and then we look after them. You get people who pick up the phone, and a site that carries on working on the days you don't.

Enjoy the bank holiday. We'll keep an eye on things.

Nine minutes.

That's how long a laptop we looked at recently took to get from the power button to a usable screen. The person using it had stopped noticing. They'd built a routine around it. Turn it on, go and make a coffee, have a chat with whoever's in the kitchen, come back, and by then it's usually ready.

Nine minutes a day is 36 hours a year. Almost a full working week, spent waiting for a machine to have a think about it.

Here's the part that surprises people. That laptop didn't need replacing. It needed a clean install, a bit more memory and about forty quid's worth of parts. It's still going.

This is what gets missed when businesses look at tech spend. Everyone can see the cost of buying a new machine. Nobody puts a number on the cost of keeping the old one limping. So the slow one stays, quietly charging you a week a year, and it never appears anywhere you'd think to look.

Try this before the long weekend. Time it. Properly time how long it takes from pressing the button to actually starting work. If it's over two minutes, something is wrong, and it's very often fixable.

We repair, clean up and speed up business machines, and we'll tell you honestly when something is past saving rather than selling you a new one for the sake of it. When it genuinely is time to replace, our shop delivers next day.

Enjoy the bank holiday. Come back to something that starts.

There are 4,000 photos on your phone and roughly eleven of them are of your kids.

The rest is work. A finished job you were quietly proud of. The van loaded up at half six. A close-up of something you fixed that nobody outside your trade would understand, which you photographed anyway. Three near-identical shots of a delivery because the light was doing something odd.

There's a video in there too. Fourteen seconds, filmed slightly sideways, with your own voice saying "look at that" at the end.

That fourteen seconds will outperform anything you write. Every single time.

People don't watch business videos because they're polished. They watch because they're real, and because there's something deeply satisfying about watching someone who knows exactly what they're doing, do it. That's the entire format. It's why the internet cannot stop watching people pressure wash driveways.

The reason most businesses never post video isn't the filming. It's everything afterwards. The editing, the captions, the sizing, the "which bit do I even use." That's the wall, and it's where good footage goes to die in a camera roll.

Free tip while you're here. Film landscape for the website, portrait for social, and hold still for three full seconds at the start and end of every clip. Every editor you ever work with, us included, will be grateful.

We produce video content properly. You can shoot it and hand it over, or we come to you and film the lot. Either way, you stop being the person who says "we should really do more video."

Somewhere in your business there is a password that four people know and nobody has changed since the day it was set.

It might be on a sticky note under a keyboard. It might be in a WhatsApp group called Office. It might just live in everyone's heads because it's the dog's name and the year the business started, and honestly, it's easy to remember, which is precisely the point.

Nobody has been reckless here. It happened because somebody needed access urgently one afternoon, so they got told the login, and that was that. Then it happened again. And again. And now the shared drive, the email account and possibly the card details are all sitting behind one word and a number.

Most small businesses don't have a cybersecurity problem. They have a nobody-ever-decided-how-this-should-work problem. There's no plan, so people invent one, and the invented one is always the convenient one.

Worth twenty minutes of your Friday, and it costs nothing. Write down every account your business relies on and who has access to it. Just the list, nothing else. Most people are quietly surprised by how long it runs and how many names on it left the company two years ago.

Once you can see it, you can actually make decisions. Password manager, two-factor authentication, sensible permissions, and backups that have been tested rather than assumed.

We handle cybersecurity and software for businesses who would rather sort this out on a quiet Friday than a very loud Tuesday.

The boost button is the most successful sales feature ever built, and it has never once been built for you.

It appears at exactly the right moment. A post is doing better than usual, you're feeling quite good about it, and up comes a blue button offering to show it to more people for roughly the price of two coffees. Of course you press it. Anyone would.

Then twenty pounds quietly leaves your account and something happens. Some likes. A few from accounts you don't recognise. Possibly a gentleman in another country who is extremely enthusiastic about your work.

And that's the whole review. That's where the thinking stops, because there's nothing to think about. You can't tell what it did, so you shrug and do it again next month.

Paid advertising done properly looks nothing like this. It starts with who you actually want, what you want them to do next, and what a customer is genuinely worth to you. From there, every pound is traceable back to an enquiry, a sale, or a lesson worth having.

Free test you can run in the next five minutes. Look at the last three things you boosted. Can you name one piece of work that came from any of them. If the answer is no, that wasn't advertising. That was a donation.

We run paid ads across Google, Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn. One client's cost per click came down by 36%. Another saw a 1,126% increase in return on ad spend. We'll happily show you the reporting behind both.

Keep the boost button for the dog photos.

There is a list.

You might not have thought about it in a while, but it exists. Names and email addresses collected over the years from enquiries, orders, a competition you ran once, that stand you did at a county show in the rain. Hundreds of people who at some point put their hand up and said yes, I'm interested in what you do.

And you have emailed them precisely never. Or once, in 2023, with a message that opened "Season's Greetings from all the team."

That list is the most valuable marketing asset most businesses own and the one they use least. These are people who already know you. No algorithm decides whether they see you. No bidding against three competitors for the privilege. No paying to reach someone who has never heard your name.

The reason it sits untouched is almost always the same, and it isn't laziness. It's "I don't know what I'd say."

So here's the fix, and it's smaller than you think. Stop trying to write a newsletter. Write one email that answers one question your customers genuinely ask you. That's it. Every business owner has about ten of those questions already rattling around in their head. That's ten months of email marketing, and because it's actually useful, people read it.

We build email marketing with a plan behind it, so it stops being a thing you feel vaguely guilty about and starts being a thing that brings work through the door.

Go and find your list. Then let's have a conversation about what to do with it.

Every business has an unofficial IT department. It's usually one person who fixed a printer once in 2019 and has never been allowed to forget it.

They aren't qualified. They've just got a reputation. So when the shared drive vanishes, when the emails stop sending, when a screen turns an alarming shade of blue, it lands on their desk. And they have a go, because they're nice, and because by now everyone is standing behind them watching.

Forty minutes later they've found a forum post from 2014 written by a man called Dave who says this worked for him. It does not work for them.

Meanwhile the job they were actually doing that morning is still sitting there, and it's now half three.

This is fixable. Remote support means someone who does this for a living connects to the machine securely, sees the problem and sorts it while you carry on. No van, no waiting in, no rebooking for Thursday. Most things are done in the time it takes to make a cup of tea.

One habit worth building before you call anyone, ours or otherwise. Write down what you were doing in the ten seconds before it broke. Not "it stopped working." What you clicked, and exactly what it said on screen. That one sentence halves most fixes.

We provide remote support for businesses across the UK. Give your good-with-computers person their actual job back.
