We are seeing more incidents with people being conned by so called "windows technicians" or "Microsoft technicians".

Today's case was a professional who had prided himself on never being caught out by scammers. Last night even he was taken in by them. Then when he refused to pay them, they locked him out of his own PC.

The scam is simple - they want to make you believe you have an issue with your PC and then to charge you to fix the issues (which normally don't exist).

Do NOT let these people take control of your PC. Once they are in, they will trash your PC if you don't pay them or charge you for nothing if you comply. So you'll lose money either way if you let them in.

The simple rule is to remember: "MICROSOFT (or WINDOWS) DO NOT call users."

Don't get caught out.

“Advance Computer Care” – RUBBISH…!

We had a lady customer in yesterday with a Windows 7 machine producing loads of automatic pop-up chrome windows as soon as she opened up chrome/ internet.

Was it a Virus? No in fact she had the AVG Anti-Virus free package running and it was completely up to date. Even though this is a free package, it is fairly respectable in performance. Our client had run a full system scan and AVG had not picked up any issues.

We noticed an installed package called “Advance Computer Care” on the system which was alerting her to the pop-up problems on her computer. In fact, this software was actually the cause of the problem. The software is malware and gets onto your system without you knowing and then pretends to be helping you, but in reality all its doing is producing errors (lots of pop-ups) and asking you to pick up the phone to the software makers who will then charge you a tidy sum to remove it.

Our Advice – Don’t pay them a penny!

Here’s the fix that you can run for yourself:
Uninstall the “Advance Computer Care” package In control panel, Programs and Features, and then download, install and run the free copy of Malwarebytes and do a complete scan of your machine. It should remove it.

It’s just another scam - and we will keep reporting these to you guys so you can be safe – and keep your money. Don’t give these guys a penny.

** And don't forget to share this with your friend and family.

Microsoft calling users... Yeah right...!

There are some fraudsters ringing people randomly and "chancing it" to scam some money from them. They claim that are from MicroSoft and that there's a problem on their computer.

Remember one thing - IF you continue to talk to these guys YOU WILL have a problem on your computer!

We just had a customer who had all of his data deleted because he gave them access to his computer and then refused to pay them to upgrade it. He didn't need an upgrade but they threatened to take all of his credit card and banking information from his computer. In the end, all that happened is, they corrupted his computer and deleted his data.

REMEMBER: MicroSoft DOES NOT Call users.

Make sure you have strong passwords to prevent hackers attacking you. one of our local business was just hit because the username/ password combination was weak. Hackers will always go for the easy prey so if your system is strong, they'll move away.

You can easily create a strong password: here's a quick trick.

Recall a memorable word like your pet goldfish's name and your partner's cell phone.

So for me that might be joey and 07871 710277

then my password could be j7871 710277oeY

I always try not to use the 1st zero so that the number bit doesn't look like a telephone number.

(BTW the number above is fictitious).

And the great thing is only you know that combination.
