AI tools are easy to start with.

AI strategy is harder.

A lot of small businesses are already trying tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini or automation platforms — but the harder question is: where should AI actually fit into the business?

Mercia AI’s AI Strategy Builder: 3 Session Pack helps turn scattered AI ideas into a practical roadmap.

Across three 1:1 sessions, we look at your goals, workflows, risks, opportunities and next steps — then turn that into a clear AI Strategy Roadmap you can actually use.

Useful if you’re asking:

“Are we using AI in the right places?”
“What should we automate first?”
“How do we avoid wasting time on random tools?”
“What’s realistic for our size and budget?”

AI should reduce confusion, not add another dashboard.

Formula 1 race day is a good reminder that AI works best when it supports fast, human decisions.

Tonight’s Canadian Grand Prix starts at 9pm UK time, and as always in F1, strategy could change quickly: tyres, track position, pit windows, safety cars, weather risk, and split-second calls from the pit wall.

That’s where AI and data can help.

Not by making the race predictable, but by helping teams process more signals, test scenarios and make better decisions under pressure.

The same lesson applies beyond motorsport. In business, AI is most useful when it helps people spot patterns, compare options and act with more confidence.

Back in August, we looked at how AI would shape the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Now we’re at final day — and the table still has plenty of live variables.

European places are still being decided. The final relegation issue is still unresolved. One goal in one stadium could change what matters in another.

That’s exactly why AI and data are becoming so important in football.

Not because they make the game predictable. They don’t. Football remains proudly allergic to behaving like a spreadsheet.

But AI can help clubs model scenarios, analyse player workload, spot tactical patterns, support recruitment decisions, improve fan experiences, and make officiating faster through tools like Semi-Automated Offside Technology.

The same lesson applies beyond sport: better data helps you make better decisions, but it doesn’t remove uncertainty.

AI tools have felt surprisingly affordable for the last few years.

But that may be changing.

More AI platforms are moving toward usage-based pricing, token billing, or credit systems — especially for heavier workflows like coding assistants, agents, long-document analysis, and automation.

For small businesses, the question is no longer just:

“Which AI tool should we use?”

It’s also:

“What does this cost when we actually start using it properly?”

In this new blog, I look at what rising AI usage costs could mean for UK small businesses, why local AI is back in the conversation, and why the smartest answer may be a hybrid approach.

Cloud AI still has huge advantages. Local AI has real benefits too. The key is knowing which work belongs where.

Spygate in football isn’t just sports drama — it’s a reminder for small businesses using AI.

From data collection to ethics and transparency, clear rules help protect customer trust and your brand.

The same lesson applies whether you’re analysing match footage, customer data, spreadsheets, bookings or competitor information: data has power, but how you collect and use it matters.

The 2026 World Cup won’t just be shaped by players and managers.

It will also be shaped by AI.

From AI-assisted VAR and smart match balls to tactical analytics, crowd-flow systems, automated highlights and deepfake risks, the tournament is becoming one of the biggest live demonstrations of AI in action.

But the bigger story may be what businesses can learn from it.

I’ve broken down:

• How AI is being used,
• Where the risks are,
• And why “AI supports decisions — it doesn’t replace them” matters far beyond football.

Before the 2025/26 Premier League season kicked off, I wrote about how AI could shape the year ahead.

Now, with the season nearly complete, it’s a good time to revisit the bigger question:

How much of modern football is now shaped by data before the ball is even kicked?

AI is already part of the football conversation across recruitment, injury prevention, fan engagement, fantasy football, match analysis and semi-automated offside technology.

The lesson beyond football is simple: better use of data can help teams make better decisions earlier.

That applies whether you’re running a Premier League club, a small business, or a local team.

F1 returns in Miami tonight after an unusual five-week break — and the “data reset” story has already had a reset of its own.

The 2026 regulations were always going to make old assumptions less reliable. But with two races cancelled, a long gap in the calendar, and refinements already being made to the new energy-management rules, teams are heading into Miami with less clean data than they’d ideally want.

That’s where the business lesson gets interesting.

When the rules change, old data doesn’t become useless — but it does need context. Whether you’re running an F1 team or a small business, AI works best when it helps you spot patterns, test assumptions, and adapt quickly when conditions shift.

I wrote about this “data reset” idea earlier in the season. With Miami coming up tonight, it feels even more relevant now.

The Champions League semi-finals arrive next week:

Tuesday: PSG vs Bayern München
Wednesday: Atlético de Madrid vs Arsenal

At this level, football is no longer just about talent, tactics and pressure. Data and AI are becoming part of the wider picture too — from player performance and recruitment to match analysis, injury prevention and fan engagement.

Coventry City are (virtually) back in the Premier League after 25 years. 🥳

During that time, there were setbacks. Relegations. Being locked out of the ground built for them. Playing “home” games at Sixfields and St. Andrew’s.

But over time, the club built momentum.

That’s something I see a lot with AI adoption too.

The organisations that get results aren’t chasing quick wins — they’re building steadily, learning as they go, and improving over time.

Momentum matters.

Congrats to everyone connected with the club — and to the Sky Blue Army who’ve stuck with it.
