An Interstellar Logo Suite for Resonate

Resonate is a DJ collective and event promoter based in Bangor, Gogledd Cymru. As a startup, their aim is to bring local DJs together whilst attracting and growing the electronic music community across Wales.

As a house music lover myself, I'm so glad I had the chance to create a logo suite for this group! I'll explain more of my design decisions in another post, stay tuned...

Anyway, make sure to keep an eye out for any future events 🌌

Why the name "Gwerin Creative"?

Well, firstly, Gwerin Creative translates to Creative Folk in Welsh, a callback to my celtic roots.

And with my fiance being Irish, my brand was all about Irish-Welsh connections, which there are many; both have a native language, are accustomed to crap weather & both have a strong sense of community, which is more important now than ever.

Businesses are the same! They thrive off community. This could look like an avid shopper returning to the same brand, an elderly regular meeting up with mates & chatting away to their favourite waitor, a family interlinked with the same tradesman for generations or a group that raves about your company to everyone they meet.

All in all, Gwerin Creative represents community, imagination & originality, just the right ingredients to help make you the talk of the town.

Interested? Chat to me, I love a yap!

A little bit about me ✍️

Helo, dia duit! I'm Marlon, the dublin based freelance designer behind Gwerin Creative, focused on making local legends & ambitious startups the talk of the town.

Recently, I made the move from Llandudno in North Wales to Dublin, a perfect time to challenge myself to make the switch from years of in-house branding & marketing to freelancing!

Catch me outside of work getting a little too competitive on the hockey pitch, and soon, hopefully a GAA pitch (wish me luck). On the note of competition, I'm also an avid gamer, currently obsessing over Oblivion, Overwatch and Neva.

Listening to my favourite tunes, allowing my mind to wander and exploring the countryside is how I chill out.

Anyway, enough about me, fancy a chat? Drop me a message 💬

P.s. I definitely need to add some Welsh stickers to my collection...

We did it! 🇮🇪

My fiancé, , and myself have made the move to Ireland 🍾

Apologies for the radio silence... who knew starting a new business, in the middle of turning your life upside down and moving to a different country was so tricky? I think we have a lot to catch up on 🥴

Anyway, if anyone has any recommendations for a stray Welsh Designer in Dublin, hit me up.

Oh, and feel free to tag along for my journey as a freelancer, helping startups, local legends & charities to launch brands and professional websites that demand attention, converting onlookers into brand advocates, without the agency price tag. 🖋

Did someone say walkies? 🐶👀

Gwerin Creative has given a new leash of life for Canine Cuddles Club, let me walk you through their story 📖

Erica, a passionate dog trainer and a mum to two boys, was born and raised in Bae Colwyn, Gogledd Cymru, alongside a family of Springer Spaniels. Trading in an office job for mid-day zoomies along the beach, both Erica and Freya, her wife, set out to create Doggie Daycare with Cuddles, following on to enjoy four years of success offering daycare and holiday services for their canine companions.

But through wanting to expand the business, they were met with a few challenges:
🐾 An outdated business name and brand didn’t encompass two new key services, holidays and training academy.
🐾 The onboarding process for new customers was time consuming, and was becoming difficult to manage.
🐾 They weren’t sure how to transition to a new business name

These pain points laid the foundation from initial to final branding ideas. One idea depicted a dog mascot shaped like a canine tooth, the other a play on Yin & Yang, representing calmness, with a coastal twist to both designs.

The Yin & Yang idea was favoured, and perfectly represented Canine Cuddles Club goal: To create happier, calmer dogs through structured daycare, home-from-home holidays, and training that supports both dogs and their owners.

We launched the brand together, and now Canine Cuddles Club has successfully transitioned from Doggie Daycare with Cuddles, offering:

Holidays: "Treat your dog to a holiday, we’ll take care of them as if they were our own."
Daycare: "Home-from-home experience, helping your pooches to socialise in groups."
Academy: "Expertise in owner coaching with recall and walking or combined with other services for Stay & Train."

Hold off on that Amazon order till you read this 🫵

Be honest... was your first job a blessing or a curse?

Let’s take a trip down memory lane. Do you recall your first job and how you ended up getting it?

Did you email? Smarten up to hand out CVs? Support your family business?

No matter how, I’d bet that it was local. And no matter the grind, it meant some independent income in your pocket for the very first time.

Many reminisce of their first, local jobs. The inside jokes, the people, the experiences or the impact it had on personal growth.

No matter good or bad, working locally can be a huge leg up to your next profession. Or for many families, it’s a lifeline.

But did you ever think of how much you contributed to that local business owner’s dream? Or the elderly regular who desperately needed a chat that day?

This is the essence of supporting local businesses. Even if it’s every so often, every little helps.

Yes, it may cost you a little extra. But that extra cash is substituted for the cherished memories and vital experience that shaped you growing up.

Alongside reducing air miles and helping the future planet to breathe, just think... Isn’t this the same experience that should be passed onto the next generation?

My first job? The Tea Station in Deganwy. I still look back at the Welsh rarebit gifted in secret at lunch on a rainy work day. Cheers Gaynor x
