Beware. Even though the HMRC are stupid enough to send tax tefund notices out via text, be vary careful as scammers use these moments to send out nearly identical messages with rogue links. Why HMRC need to text, saying you don't need to do anything and you are getting a payment is beyond nuts.. just pay the damn money inro the recipients account and the recipients will see they have got a payment.

"Allow Notifications" from Website are a common source of Scamming. These images are some of the typical fake virus alerts that can result. If you look closely at the alert, you will see it is "Via Microsoft Edge" and a line of gimmerish. No Virus - Fake messages from a compromised website.

Have YOU had your facebook account "hacked"?

Usually it is not a hack as such, and the scam scum have not gained control of your account, but instead have created a fake facebook account using your name and pictures which they can see on your page. Their aim is to target your friends which you more than likely have publicially visable.

To reduce your likelyhood of having your account cloned you should lock down your privacy settings. In particular, set your friends list so that it is only visable to your Friends or even to Only yourself. Also consider reducing the visability of your posts to Friends or Friends of Friends. You can also make pictures (and Albums), and other profile information such as places of work, date of birth etc more private.

Phone Scammer doing the rounds again. If you get a phone call saying they are from BT or other internet provider and are telling you they are going to cut you off just hang up. They are currently phoning from 01235 619 307 but in reality will most likely be in Mumbai.

A FACEBOOK SCAM DOING THE ROUNDS AT THE MOMENT.

You receive a message from someone you know, with a link to somewhere but when you click the link it asks you to login to Facebook - ALARM BELLS -

Why do you need to login when you must have been logged in the get the message? Because it is a scam. If you have fallen for this Scam then change your Facebook password immediately, notify all FB friends to ignore any link that has come from you and check all your account settings in case the scummer has been meddling.

Moral of story: DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS IN EMAILS/TEXTS/MESSAGES unless you are expecting one from the person that has sent it. If anyone sends you a link, contact the sender to make certain it was them and they intended to send you it and even then be careful you are not talking to a scummer who could have control of your friends account.
