There's a day to celebrate everything, probably! LED light day is today.

Electroluminescence from a solid state diode was discovered in 1906 but it wasn't until the early 90s that blue (and thus white) light emitting diodes became possible. Fast-forward just a tiny bit more from there and now disco PCs like this one I built are possible!

History lesson aside and on a serious note, LED lighting is super power efficient compared to oldschool lightbulbs, so certainly a technology worth celebrating 💡

Has anyone else heard the phrase "a messy desk is a sign of genius" before? I'm just going to pretend that's what's going on here 🫣️

Have an excellent bank holiday everyone! I'll be back on Tuesday with an empty workbench ready to start the week afresh all being well 💪️🤓️

Thanks for your patience everybody while I was off adventuring at a festival. Back at the office now, screwdrivers at the ready! 🪛️

14/08/2026

🪧️ Notice: I'm taking a well earned rest followed by a festival in the middle of nowhere with no signal or screens, yay!

🗓️ Open again:
Tuesday 25th between 10am-5pm

I won't be immediately contactable while out of office. Leave a message and I'll get back in touch as soon as possible once I'm back.

Thanks for your patience! x

Had a very weird and wonderful job in this week. What do you notice about this motherboard I've just fitted? It's an enterprise-grade AM5 socket motherboard with a 32-bit PCI slot (predating PCIe, 1992!) fitted with a 9th generation Ryzen processor.

This is in order to provide a powerful computer that can reliably run audio engineering software while also facilitating a very old PCI card that is crucial for this customer's work.

You won't find support or a PC off the shelf like this at the big stores, that's for sure! Shop local x

Sometimes I think "I won't need this IDE hard drive recovery equipment any more, surely" and consider removing it all from the rack. Other times, I get two recovery jobs from 00s-era hard drives in one week...

Best to be prepared, I guess! You never know what might happen from one day to the next in this job

This is the back of a full system rebuild with a new motherboard. Just because it's a back connect motherboard and all the cables are hidden away doesn't mean you should make a mess in the back. I know nobody sees it, but I would know if I didn't make it tidy 🫣️

It's Coalville Pride at Coalville Park today (1st August) 🎉️ Pop along, hopefully I'll see you there! Lots of stalls, activities, performances, and good vibes for all to enjoy with free entry ❤️

Being a supporting partner of Pride in Coalville has given me an opportunity to hear some of my customer's stories about the Pride events and marches they've been to over the years, including marches on Downing Street back in the 80s!

Love is love, and love always wins. Let's celebrate that together 🌈️

Are you a gamer struggling with the memory crisis at the moment? Sometimes the oldies are the goodies, and they can usually run on a potato!
In other news, I've been getting really into Solitaire recently 🫣♠️♦️♣️♥️
