Type-A/Type-B ICAO Beacons

Aircraft warning lights are needed specifically on fixed obstacles of 45m or less in height, width & length, placed at the highest practical point. Obstacles of a greater size require additional red lights in order to outline the extent of the obstruction.

The use of such lighting is intended to reduce hazards to aircraft by indicating the presence of obstacles. The tall objects this can apply to are high rise structures, masts, towers, wind turbines, cranes and more. In our modern world these types of obstacles have increased and so more safety is needed.

D.G. Controls Ltd offer a range of Low Intensity ICAO Type-A and Type-B beacons. These beacons meet ICAO Annex 14, Chapter 6 requirements for Low Intensity Obstruction warning. Here at deegee we use LED light sources as they are much more reliable than other lamps forms, by using LED lamps it also makes the beacon more energy efficient, gives the beacon a longer life span and provides years of maintenance free operation, which in such hard to reach areas, is a must!

Low Intensity beacons are static mode, red in colour with a clear lens. Low Intensity Type-A lights have a minimum intensity of 10cd. Low Intensity Type-B lights have a minimum intensity of 32cd.

πŸ”Š Have you seen our range of Combined Sounder Beacons....? 🚨

It can often be difficult to hear an audible alarm, particularly if there is a lot of background noise.
A combined sounder beacon addresses this problem by providing both an audible and visual warning at the same point.
A combined sounder beacon is a device that combines both audible and visual signalling elements into a single product. Therefore when it is difficult to hear a sounder you can still see a visual alarm signalling, and vice-versa, in situations where a visual alarm is difficult to be seen, you can still hear an audible alarm signalling.

Within a combined sounder beacon the electronic sounder provides a loud audible alarm to raise the alert to a hazard whilst the visual light signals clearly by flashing through a colour lens. The audible and visual elements are integrated into one enclosure, making it an enhanced warning device.

There are many advantages to using a combined sounder beacon:
- Saves installation on two separate units.
- Allows for simpler wiring.
- Allows the unit to act as a 2-stage alarm.
- Allows the installer to easily comply with Equality Acts.

Here at D.G. Controls Ltd, we offer a wide range of combined sounder beacons including tower sounder beacons, LED sounder beacons, xenon sounder beacons and 64 tone sounder beacons.

deegee Part Codes...

Here at D G Controls Limited, we have many beacons to offer in our range.
We break our range down into Series models, then into individual stock codes. D G Controls stock codes begin with three standard letters, indicating the type of beacon required, (i.e. Pulsed, Xenon) and the series beacon you require, (i.e. Series K), followed by the voltage code, voltage required, then lamp type, then colour.

🚨 Static Warning Lights...

A static warning light is a continuously lit signal and is used in our everyday life, guiding us and keeping us safe. For example, in every commercial building you enter you will see a static signal lighting up where a fire escape is throughout the building.

Static warning signals are ideal for a wide range of industries – from factory automation where a static green light signals that everything is running smoothly, to a hospital where a red static light signals a room is currently occupied for x-rays so do not enter!

Red static lights are used very effectively on tall buildings and cranes to warn aircraft, if such a signal was not in use, there could be catastrophic effects. Static beacons are extremely important and play a vital role in their application.

Static warning beacons indicate a specific warning, hazard or operational status. They increase safety, awareness and process indication. A constant visual signal is often more effective in particular situations as they are designed for maximum visibility.

🚨 Beacon Colours/Meaning 🚨

A visual signal must be applied in such a way that anyone who sees it can recognise it and is able to react immediately to it. Beacons convey strong and vital messages in the colours they use. They deliver clear messages not only in their colour, but also in their position, place and time of use. Beacons allow people to become aware of their surroundings and any possible dangers that might be on-coming.

Knowing the meaning behind the available colours of beacons will allow you to determine their purpose for your next action, and if installing them, will allow you to choose the right colour for your application.

As a general rule:

Colour: Red.
The colour red is considered a powerful signal that can trigger an automatic message to any viewer. Red is usually associated with strong messages of danger, hazard and emergency situations. Red coloured beacons are mostly used to warn people to keep away from a dangerous area/situation. When used on safety/industrial equipment, red usually signifies a danger/emergency/fault situation.

Colour: Amber/Yellow.
The colour amber or yellow often triggers a person’s thoughts to slow down and be cautious. For this reason, amber colour beacons are used on slow moving vehicles, on construction sites, airports and in other establishments where there may be crowds, for increased awareness that caution is needed. When used on safety/industrial equipment, amber usually signifies a warning/caution required/abnormal situation.

Colour: Green.
The colour green offers people assurance that everything is under control. Green tends to indicate safety. It delivers a message that a particular situation is currently being handled, and that the area is safe. When used on safety/industrial equipment, green usually signifies a safe/normal situation.

Colour: Blue.
The colour blue is mostly used by emergency vehicles – for this reason blue beacons are not applicable to be used in certain places such as public roads. If you are not certain if a blue beacon is the right colour for your application, it’s best to check with your local authority who will advise further. When used on safety/industrial equipment, blue usually signifies a mandatory significance situation.

Colour: Clear.
Clear beacons are often used alongside other colour beacons and are generally used in offices and schools as an alternative indication. This indication is often left open to the end-users specific requirements. When used on safety/industrial equipment, again clear has no specific meaning assigned and is in place at the user’s specific request to add their own instruction.

14/05/2025

Traffic lights are signalling devices most commonly found positioned on roads, junction intersections and pedestrian crossings to control the flow of traffic. They are also found in other areas, predominantly on bridges, train crossings/stations, buildings and more. 🚦

They are installed globally and are instantly recognisable by always using the three standard colours of red, amber and green. Without these simple yet effective lights, our roads would be in utter chaos as every year the roads get busier and busier with more traffic flowing through them. The use of technology monitoring and maintaining the flow of traffic through lights are a necessity in our everyday lives. 🚨

The three most common traffic lights you are likely to find on our roads are:

⚑ Red/Amber/Green Traffic Lights.
These lights are what you will see daily on our roads as they help ease the flow of traffic. Globally the red light means β€˜stop’ the amber light means β€˜caution’ and the green light means β€˜go’. They assign the right of way for the road user and help to ensure our busy roads run as smoothly as possible.

⚑ Walking/Standing Man Traffic Lights.
These lights are usually indicators for pedestrians; an indication when it is not safe to cross a road by lighting up a red standing man, or it is safe to cross a road by lighting up with a green walking man.
The same notion of colours is seen here, red to stop and green to go.

⚑ Wig-Wag Traffic Lights.
Wig-wag lights are usually found in colours amber-amber or red-red and are generally used on level bridge crossings and other such areas where there is a need to stop ordinary traffic flow.
