LUMIN X2 review!

The Absolute Sound have published their fantastic review of LUMIN X2 while also sharing experiences of LUMIN L2 Music Library.

During the review, Neil Gader states:
-----------
"...for Lumin everything up to this point has been prologue to the X2.”

"The Lumin X2 excels in an almost clairvoyant ability to communicate the lifelike silences in a venue, the musical rests and pauses, the decay of a note, the moments when players and audience alike are taking a breath."

"...as if hearing that piece of music for the first time through a fresh set of ears. Rediscovery."

"it exuded a tingly presence factor, a centeredness and poise that elevated the physical and tactile to a higher level"

"The sheer musicality and naturalism of the Lumin X2 blows past the data and transcends commonly quoted stats..."
-----------

The Absolute Sound issue 372 July/Aug 2026 is available to buy online and on newstands now!

Thank you to our US distributor Source Systems for organising this review unit.

While the new power amplifier PA1 was our main introduction at the Vienna High End, a ‘mystery guest’ in our room could not be missed by any visitor: a passive loudspeaker of our own design. We had been searching quite while for a passive loudspeaker to use at the PA1 introduction but were not satisfied with the options we tested. So about 4 months ago we decided to assemble a ’study model’ ourselves with all the knowledge we gathered over the years.

Coincidently our ‘jack of all trades’ employee Mark Devlaeminck has a CNC production facility in his basement (he supplies half of Amsterdam's hospitality industry with custom built speakers) and so we were able to make progress relatively quickly. We stayed close to the LS1 concept with a rounded edge wide baffle cabinet and the Seas drivers we know so well, but the passive version needed a larger internal volume and we settled on a two way loudspeaker with passive radiator for some low frequency extension.

To obtain a frequency response that came close to the LS1’s with just a passive crossover turned out to be a tour the force. There’s a very delicate balance between neutrality (= complexity) and an ‘open’ sound (= simplicity). But the end result surprised everybody, including the many visitors of our Vienna room. So inevitably this passive loudspeaker will be our next project… (whether it will be called “LS2” is yet to be decided however).

With the PA1, we proudly present an amplifier that offers a musicality like found in the best tube based designs while simultaneously challenging the rock-solid performance achieved with the best solid-state designs. At the High End Society Vienna High End show many experienced listeners tell us they were shocked by the PA1’s sound quality. And they ask us how we did it. Class AB is such an old technique, how could we still improve on that? So we lifted the hood of the PA1 in a special ‘behind the scenes’ blog post. If you like to have a deep dive in the backgrounds of the PA1 electronic design, please read the blog: https://www.grimmaudio.com/blogs/under-the-hood-of-the-pa1/

June 4-7 we exhibit at the High End Society Vienna High End show, the successor of the Munich High End show. The Munich show was world famous, attracting visitors from all continents, and we had exceptionally great succes there. But the M,O,C, hall went out of business and High End Society moved to Vienna. Like everyone in the industry, we will need to reinvent ourselves a bit in the new venue. But we look forward to that a lot and have prepared some great surprises for our audience, so make sure to give us a visit at our booth & large sound cabin M01 in Hall X4.

Our main introduction at this show is the PA1 mono-block amplifier. It just received its own web page, with lots of background information. This amplifier is truly sensational in every sense. Most importantly, its sound clearly carries the Grimm Audio signature. Our engineers managed “to blend authority with grace”.

The PA1 can drive very complex loads and has fabulous bass control. At the same time it sounds delicate and smooth in the mids and highs, with a naturalness often only experienced with the best tube based designs. As always, we wanted the looks of the product to match the sound quality level. In our opinion industrial designer Michiel Uylings really surpassed himself with his PA1 design…

Don’t forget to give us a visit. No doubt you will be amazed by the PA1, the MU2 as its source, and more…
