Overheating gaming PC?

We recently had a gaming PC in for repair.

The PC was overheating due to a broken Liquid CPU Cooler. Overheating is one of the fastest ways to wreck a PC. We replaced the Liquid CPU Cooler with a new be quiet! Liquid CPU Cooler and gave the PC a service; removing dust build up and cleaning the components.

We had a laptop in yesterday where a gel-filled squishy ball had been pushed through a laptop vent and the gel had caused a reaction with the plastic inside the case.

We've done some reading up on this and some of these gel-filled squishies, particularly the cheap unbranded ones, can contain chemicals that cause skin irritation, rashes, or worse with prolonged contact. If it can do this to plastic, imagine the damage it could cause to your child's skin.

Not saying all of them are dangerous, but if your kids have got these, it might be worth checking where they came from and also checking for manufacturer/importer details, clear safety warnings and instructions, UKCA/CE marking, and clear English labelling.

Another laptop that we recently serviced and a first for us, we found a feather inside the fan.

We start our laptop service by removing the back covers and cleaning any vents. We then remove the fans, give them a thorough clean and, if necessary, lubricate them with a drop of specialist oil. Next, we clean the heatsinks and apply new thermal paste. Once that’s done, we clean any ports, such as USB ports, then reassemble the laptop and carry out a series of checks.

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve had several business customers contact us asking whether emails like this are legitimate.

We received the same one ourselves over the weekend.

The company in question is not our domain registrar, and the address listed on the invoice is one we haven’t used for around 15 years. These emails are designed to look urgent and official in the hope that businesses will simply pay the invoice without questioning it.

Before paying anything related to your domain name or website, always check with your IT provider or the company that manages your website.

A quick phone call could save you a lot of money and hassle.

We recently carried out a job to upgrade the SSD in a laptop, as the customer kept running out of storage space.

Our SSD upgrade process is designed to keep things as simple as possible for our customers. We take an image backup of the existing drive and then restore it onto the new SSD. An image backup is a complete, block-level snapshot of an entire hard drive or partition, including the operating system, applications, settings, and files, meaning everything stays exactly where you left it.
