Right, confession time…
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve walked into an office and spotted the sacred Post-it note on the monitor with “Password123!” proudly displayed for all to see.

Or the classic: someone rings up saying their computer’s “completely broken”… only to discover they just needed to plug the power cable back in.

We’ve all been there (or had that awkward conversation).

Most IT risks don’t come from dramatic cyber attacks or obvious failures.

They usually come from small things that haven’t been reviewed for a long time:
• Old user accounts still active
• Inconsistent security settings
• Backup assumptions that were never tested
• Systems that have quietly evolved without oversight

None of these are unusual.
They’re simply what happens when IT grows organically alongside a business.

Clear communication, proactive maintenance, and reliable systems remove friction rather than create it. There’s no constant firefighting, no surprises, and no wondering who to call when something goes wrong.

It’s “Change Your Password Day”… apparently.

And like most things in cyber security, the headline doesn’t tell the full story.

Modern guidance (including from the NCSC) no longer recommends forced, routine password changes for the sake of it. Why? Because it often leads to weaker passwords, frustrated users, and more helpdesk tickets.

What does matter 👇
✔ Strong, unique passwords per service
✔ A password manager doing the heavy lifting
✔ MFA wherever it’s available
✔ Changing passwords immediately if there’s suspicion of compromise

Good security isn’t about ticking a calendar reminder once a year.
It’s about building habits and systems that actually reduce risk.
