Log4J

We have received a number of enquiries from Police IT departments regarding the Log4j Security Vulnerability with regards to the Promaps product suite.

Q: Is Promaps affected by Log4J

A: No it is not, Promaps does not run-on Apache servers and nor does it use the Log4J DLL file for auditing and logging purposes.
We cannot speak for any 3rd party software that you may use alongside Promaps and you will have to speak to the appropriate companies for an assessment of their software.

Police National Enabling Program

A new software driver for the startech capture device that we use for capturing full HD quality video's and images for custody has just been released. This new driver is digitally signed and now conforms to the new Police Enabling program, with thanks given to Darren Daly at South Wales Police for testing and confirming this.

The Promaps software suite and all of its hardware support systems are now 100% compatible with the new government driven software initiative.

Police National Enabling Program

This is a new directive from the top that all police forces will have to follow once the trial periods are finished. The whole scope of this rollout is far more detailed than I want to outline here, however Promaps has come a cropper with it in one of its hardware drivers it uses for the masking of videos files, we call it Quick Mask Professional.
Simply put the hardware manufacturer will not digitally sign the libraries and therefore they can no longer be used in police networks. Sadly, at Promaps we have no control over the hardware and software that is published alongside it. We have however built a fix for this issue.
By replacing the original hardware with new hardware and some spell casting inside the Promaps Masking software we have managed to get it to work. The only downside is that the original masking dongles must be replaced.
If your force is installing the NEP system and you find that the masking software no longer works, please get in touch with us and we will provide the solution.

Northumbria Police agree start date for a Promaps to Northgate Connect Police Record Management System Integration.

The agreed start date is November and is likely to run into 6-8 weeks of development / testing and installation time.
It is a very similar project to the one we have just completed for Devon and Cornwall Police who use the UNIFI system to manage Police records.

* A prisoner arrives in custody and is added to the NEC system as normal, and the prisoner is placed into a specific cell.
* The Detention Officer then runs Promaps which in turn interrogates the NEC system to show a list of prisoners waiting for an image to be captured, this is ordered by Cell ID and is filtered by the actual Custody Station the detention officer is at.
* Using the Promaps proprietary still image and video capture software a 15 second video is taken in High Definition and from this a front facing image and left and right-side profile image are taken, the opportunity is also given for taking images of tattoos, marks, etc.
* The custody front facing Image is then automatically sent to the NEC custody booking system so it can update its own records with the image and the rest are sent to the Promaps custody and video ID System where a witness album or crime research project or a video Identification parade can be produced.

Promaps version 2.2 Released

We have been holding back on the release of the 2.2 version of Promaps until we completed the interface work with Devon and Cornwall police. Now that this has been done, we can now formally announce the release of Promaps version 2.2 which is now available to all forces in the United Kingdom and overseas that use the Promaps software suite.

This is a full list of the changes in this new version.

1. Preliminary support has been added for the upcoming HD database integration. A new config switch has been added that will allow the system to default to a Hight Definition database or Standard Definition database mode.

2. Promaps import and export functionality has been re-written from the ground up with a new XML interface and new multi-threaded procedures that create more stable import and export functions. Support for the old Promat 2 data imports has been retained for legacy purposes only.

3. Promaps cloud integration has been added. This is the base application for running secure Promaps on a cloud-based server for those that choose that option against storing the system in the internal force network. For more information on our cloud offering please contact us to open a dialogue

4. Promaps cloud login two form factor authentication added to improve login security.

5. Live witness viewings now have a periodic check to stop it timing out after 60 minutes. It was reported that if a witness viewing took longer than 60 minutes the system would time out as is set by your force policy. To alleviate this in live parade viewings only we have added a refresh switch that runs automatically in the background and will ensure that viewing officers do not get the timed-out message anymore.

6. Bug Fix: When a pixilated parade is bunt to CD without its source parade (i.e., standard video) and this is imported into another forces database then it would generate both the pixilated and the standard even though only the pixilated is on the CD. This has now been fixed.

7. You can now re-pixilate a pixelated still parade. By copying just, the pixilated version from a conversion parade you can now opt to convert the new copied parade. Effectively pixilate a pixelated image.

8. Witness Albums and parades can now have separate lists of viewing users so witness viewings can be assigned in a more structured way. The option is still available for a viewing user to be able to view both parades and witness albums.

9. When searching for custody records using the custody ref the historical switch will now auto switch the on position if any text is detected in the custody reference edit box.

10. Bug Fix: When viewing a custody image, you will now be shown the correct image in its historical context.

11. Bug fix: When generating an ID Parade from a custody record the automatic search was not populating the list of custody record features properly.

12. A brand-new UNIFI custody whiteboard and data exchange facility has been added which allows Promaps to capture the video and image by selecting a prisoner from the whiteboard and then automatically passing the image to UNIFI so that when the prisoner is released from custody UNIFI sends the full record details to Promaps so double keying is no longer required, ensuring the custody data from both UINIFI and Promaps are consistent.
This also includes the automatic removal of images from UNIFI when a custody image or a custody record is deleted in Promaps.

13. A brand-new video witness data extractor has been built that will pull all records for video witness and create custody records for them in Promaps.

14. A better system for video ID recaptures against custody records has been built. This new system is more intuitive and a lot less confusing.

15. Witness albums will now only show side profiles if every record in the witness album has a both side profile images attached.

16. Witness viewing recordings no longer auto archive the witness viewing due to hard drive space being compromised up by these very large video files. instead, the videos are archived on the application server when they are uploaded via the management screen.

17. The border colour that shows if a distracter image source is a suspect or a volunteer record has now been made clearer.

18. When a custody record status is marked as deceased the system will now mark all custody records attached to the same PNCID as deceased as well. This also works vice versa – if you mark a custody record status as no longer deceased then all the records in the PNCID chain will be marked as primary.

19. New meta description types have been added to the custody records
Hair Type – Plaited
Hair Colour – Greying
Scar/Mark Type – Unknown
Scar/Mark Position – Unknown
Scar/Mark Body Part - Unknown

Devon and Cornwall Video Witness Replacement

We have now completed the full data transfer from the ageing D&C video witness system into the Promaps custody system. This included several hundreds of thousands of custody records and related images spanning the last 20 years.
The goal was to modernize the witness album and crime research facilities for Devon and Cornwall police.

Originally D&C only used the video identification module in Promaps but when it came to light that Promaps did so much more in the field of identification it was deemed a natural fit and has allowed them to merge multiple identification process into a single software system to help reduce ongoing costs while at the same time improving the overall quality of service.

Devon and Cornwall UNIFI software interface

We have now completed and installed into Devon and Cornwall the new automatic UNIFI police records management system to Promaps Custody interface data share facility.

A summary of how the process works is as follows.

* A prisoner arrives in custody and is added to the UNIFI system as normal and the prisoner is placed into a specific cell.
* The Detention Officer then runs Promaps which in turn interrogates the UNIFI system to show a list of prisoners waiting for an image to be captured, this is ordered by Cell ID and is filtered by the actual Custody Station the detention officer is at.
* using the Promaps proprietary still image and video capture software a 15 second video is taken in High Definition and from this a front facing image and left and right side profile image are taken, The opportunity is also given for taking images of tattoos, marks, etc.
* The custody front facing Image is then automatically sent to the UNIFI custody booking system so it can update its own records with the image and the rest are sent to the Promaps custody and video ID System where a witness album or crime research project or a video Identification parade can be produced.

This system was months in the building and this summary falls way short of its full capabilities, for more information please contact us to open a dialogue.

Today has seen us complete the upgrade at Hampshire police to the latest Promaps version.

Its been 5 years since we last ran an update at Hampshire. It will take them some time to catch up on all the additional functionality that has been built into the software over the last 5 years.

Keeping us busy this week

* Planning for the rollout of our custody still image capture software for Merseyside police. The plan is to roll it out to all of their capture booths across the force.

* We are in discussion with British Transport Police over them coming back to the Promaps fold. We feel the Promaps cloud solution is the best fit as they are stationed across the British isles and need a solution that can interface to local police forces for image capture and witness viewings no matter where they are in the country or the world for that matter.

* Devon and Cornwall are now fully testing the brand new witness recording software that we have built. This static and mobile solution allows witness viewings to be recorded through multiple cameras ensuring the integrity of the witness viewing should it ever be challenged in court.
So far initial testing is going well with no reported problems. More testing is yet to be done to ensure that the solution runs perfectly time after time after time with a 0% tolerance for failure of the process.

This week the Devon and Cornwall Police data migration tool has been given the green light with development taking place at a frenzied pace this week.

Short deadline dates given for this project have meant that we will finish the base coding this week and will be ready for testing on Monday.

A job turnaround of epic proportions when we consider the complications involved in the data migration between two separate systems.

20/02/2021

The Promaps Upcoming job queue as it stands, most are ready to go and waiting for the green light.

1) Devon and Cornwall Police require a data migration build and a 3rd part data integration system building to prevent double keying of records in custody.

2) Northumbria require a similar database integration system again to prevent double keying of records custody. Similar design with different technologies and challenges involved.

3) Surrey / Sussex police are both in final stages of green lighting the upgrade from Promat 2 to Promaps

4) Devon and Dorset police are looking into forming a collaborative system for a single instance of Promaps serving both forces using data sandboxing technology.

5) Gloucester Police are in the final stages of green lighting the Promaps upgrade to the latest version.

6) Hampshire Police are also in the final stages of green lighting the Promaps upgrade to the latest version.

7) South Wales are upgrading the hardware that the Promaps system runs on and we are waiting for the green light to begin the software transfer.

8) West Mercia are looking to move the original Promat 1 system the shiny new Promaps system although we are currently some way off arranging a date for this as they have shown an interest in the cloud setup and are further investigating the advantages of against the original Local management plan.

9) Humberside and South Yorkshire police have the latest Promaps in test system and awaiting user acceptance testing results at which time a plan will be laid out for a live upgrade of Port maps.
