Hello ! We have been seeing a HUGE increase in Facebook account hacking, so wanted to put together a little cheat sheet for you to review so that you can be sure your account is secure and not at risk.
**Facebook Account Security Cheat Sheet**
1. STRONG PASSWORDS
Use a unique and strong password with a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters. Avoid using common words or easily guessable information (e.g., birthdays).
2. ENABLE TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATIONE
Go to Settings & Privacy > Security and Login > Two-Factor Authentication. Choose a second form of verification like SMS or an authentication app.
3. REVIEW LOGIN ACTIVITY
Regularly check Settings & Privacy > Security and Login > Where You're Logged In. Log out of unfamiliar devices and sessions.
4. UPDATE RECOVERY INFORMATION
Ensure your email address and phone number are up to date in Settings & Privacy > General > Contact.
Set up Trusted Contacts in Security and Login > Choose 3 to 5 friends to contact if you get locked out.
5. RECOGNISE PHISHING ATTEMPTS
Be cautious of emails or messages asking for your password or personal information. Verify the URL is facebook.com before entering login information. Never log into your Facebook from a link that has been emailed or texted to you - always navigate directly to Facebook and log in there. If you are unsure, forward to a close tech-savvy friend so they can review it as legitimate.
6. MANAGE APP SETTINGS
Go to Settings & Privacy > Apps and Websites to review and remove apps you no longer use or trust.
7. SECURE YOUR MOBILE DEVICE
Use a password or biometric lock on your phone. Ensure your device's operating system and apps are up to date.
8. REGULARLY UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD AND CONSIDER USING A PASSWORD MANAGEMENT APP LIKE ROBOFORM OR LAST PASS
Change your Facebook password periodically for added security. If you invest in a password management tool like Roboform or Last Pass then it can help you come up with very difficult passwords which it can then fill for you so you don't have to remember them. These tools will also pick up if you are on a website that is NOT the correct address.
9. LOG OUT WHEN USING SHARED DEVICES
Always log out from Facebook on public or shared devices.
10. MONITOR ACCOUNT ACTIVITY
Enable alerts for unrecognized logins in Settings & Privacy > Security and Login > Get alerts about unrecognized logins.
11. EDUCATE YOURSELF ON SECURITY
Familiarize yourself with Facebook's security features and updates by visiting the Facebook Help Center.
By following these steps, you can greatly enhance the security of your Facebook account and reduce the risk of hacking. Stay vigilant and proactive about your online security!
