A little bit of what we’ve been up to this week at Shape MSP 👨‍💻

Alongside the usual day-to-day IT support, monitoring, Microsoft 365 and keeping our customers’ technology running, this week has involved something a little different.

Website development.

We’ve been working with a local business on their new website, taking it from an idea and turning it into something that properly represents their business online.

There’s been plenty of tweaking, changing things around and getting the details right, but the important bit is that the client is really happy with how it’s coming together.

And that’s always the best part.

We’re now looking forward to getting everything finished and seeing it officially launched. 🚀

Website development isn’t necessarily what everyone thinks of when they hear Shape MSP, but that’s really the point of what we’re building.

Your personalised number plate isn’t your business email address 😬

I’ve noticed this quite a bit lately driving around South Wales.

A really smart van.
Business name professionally sign-written down the side.
Personalised registration plate.

Then underneath…

[email protected]

There’s nothing wrong with Gmail. But if you’ve already spent money making your business look professional, having [email protected] is one of the cheapest finishing touches you can make.

And compared with the cost of a personalised number plate, it’s peanuts.

This isn’t something that needs to be complicated or expensive either.

Blaenau Gwent Mobile / Shape Mobile is starting to take shape, but I need your help to build the page properly.

The idea is simple. A mobile service built with local people in mind, with straightforward plans, no unnecessary complications, and something that actually feels connected to the community it serves.

I’m still working through the final details behind the scenes, but the more people following the page now, the easier it is for me to show there’s genuine interest in bringing something like this to Blaenau Gwent and South Wales.

A new starter's first morning should begin with the job, not a loading screen and a list of missing passwords.

Before day one, the computer, Microsoft 365 account, email, applications, files, security and access should be prepared and tested from the user's point of view.

That preparation is easy to underestimate until somebody spends their first morning waiting.

Something local is taking Shape!

I have been working in the background on the idea of a new locally supported mobile service for Blaenau Gwent.

The aim is simple: straightforward monthly plans, the ability to keep your existing number, and help from a real local business when you need it.

Blaenau Gwent Mobile / Shape Mobile is still in development, so I would really value some honest local feedback. What matters most when you choose a mobile provider?

Not every project problem needs more software.

Sometimes the problem is that nobody can give a clear answer to three basic questions:

What decision are we waiting for?
Who owns the next action?
What happens if the date slips?

A tool can make those answers visible, but it cannot replace the conversation that creates ownership in the first place.

Shape MSP also provides project management consultancy for businesses that need help bringing structure, decisions and momentum back into important work.

Who is responsible for the IT in your business?

Not who fixes the laptop when it stops working. Who checks the important things before the owner has to remember them?

Shape MSP is opening September appointments for a straightforward 20-minute IT Responsibility Review.

We will look at:

1. The computers and services the business depends on
2. Who owns updates, security and Microsoft 365
3. What currently relies on somebody remembering
4. The first sensible gap to address

A Bank Holiday for a small-business owner is not always a day off.

Sometimes it is the day without customers when the paperwork, planning and little problems finally get attention.

But IT should not be one more thing sitting in the owner's head waiting to be remembered.

Properly looked-after technology is not only about what happens when something breaks. It is the relief of knowing somebody has responsibility for it.

If you are working today, I hope you still manage to switch off for part of it.
