It’s been a busy few weeks with Starlink installations now that there’s finally an alternative to slow copper-based broadband. It’s a real game-changer for my rural clients who can access speeds of up to 200mg download. So far I’ve installed it for a residential client who lives in a remote village, smallholding with a number of holiday-let cabins, and isolated farm and metalwork business. It’s a simple case of finding a clear view of the sky for the small satellite dish. Although usually I install with a long ladder and on the side of the property, sometimes a clear view of the sky needs a cherry picker – even better if the client has their own!

There's sometimes nothing better that enjoying your garden and listening to some tunes while you're at it. In this project my customers have had a lovely garden space created, had lovely lights installed, power points etc but had forgotten about the wifi!!! Needless to say they were a bit disappointed when the Sonos wouldn't work.

After a bit of testing we were able to prove that powerline networking could be used to provide a reliable and reasonable speed wifi connection - enough for Spotify and general surfing.

Along with an outdoor enclosure to protect the device from the elements, we had one delighted customer!

I love being able to help my customers get better access to the internet, whether that's great wifi throughout their homes and businesses, or access to the internet itself.

Here's a few shots of a Starlink installation I did at a rural farm. Little to no traditional broadband at times as they're at the end of a long copper line. Not much hope of fibre in the near future either, so we looked at Starlink instead.

With a few limitations it's a great solution for a business like this and has given them access to the internet that the rest of us are taking for granted! From 4Mbps to 260Mbps... brilliant!

It's been toooo long since we last posted, but it's been a busy few months!

What a mess!

Upon moving into their new home, one client was faced with this rats nest of cables. Promised by the previous owner that "everything worked", they just didn't have the time to untangle and test it all. Luckily we love this sort of challenge at Wonderful WiFi so we set-to.

After identifying all the cables and where they terminated in the house, we tested everything, proving what worked and what didn't. We then connected the cables to patch panels and installed a cabinet to keep everything neat and tidy. Adding access points throughout the house for seamless wifi, separate adults and kids networks for easy management of younger browsing behaviour and a guest network for visitors completed the job.

Eventually the cabinet will be incorporated into a bespoke cupboard to hide things fully... no one will ever know!!

Isn’t it frustrating when the devices in your house lose connection to the Wi-Fi? One of the things we get called in a lot for is troubleshooting home networks. A good example recently was where an electrician had installed wiring and a couple of Wi-Fi access points to help a client with Wi-Fi signal across a large property and some outbuildings. Unfortunately, this had introduced a conflict in the network which led to unpredictable results, sometimes devices such as smart TVs and Amazon Fire sticks were on the network, other times they would not have access to the internet. We were able to diagnose and implement a solution very quickly, enabling the client to get back up and running on a predictable network. Congratulations to Stirr Ups on their successful launch – the start of a great adventure! We are proud to have been part of the project having designed and built the network for the restaurant: connecting till and payments systems, audio visual equipment, as well as business and guest Wi-Fi. We’ve had the chance to visit a couple of times now and the food is terrific! A great atmosphere, live music, wide variety on the menu and some spooky specials for Halloween too.

Another recent project where we were able to help in a number of ways. Originally called in to solve poor Wi-Fi signal in a beautiful old watermill. Within the property is a self-contained holiday flat so we were able to create a secure Wi-Fi access for guests firewalled and separate from the owner's network. We have also supplied a physical QR code disc which can be left in the accommodation so guests don't have to ask for network names and passwords

Recycling and reusing equipment is a service we are now proud to offer. Clients often contact us having tried other equipment, usually provided by their broadband supplier, but for one reason or another has not been working well.

What makes things worse, is having to pay again if you've already paid your broadband supplier for equipment that doesn't do what is should.

So we are offering the option to reuse or recycle your equipment where we can, and pass on any cost savings to our customers. Where that is not possible we will responsibly and safely recycle equipment, destroying any personal identifying information in the process!

A recent project was a small troubleshooting job at an equestrian property in Moreton in Marsh - getting everything working again was really appreciated! Our customer had inherited an existing Wi-Fi bridge which linked the house Wi-Fi to the stables. After changing broadband provider, and installed the new router, the connection stopped working. Routers do differ from supplier to supplier, and this change had caused an address conflict - a quick configuration change and everything was back up and working as intended.

Summer holidays are here and a time when parents face even more battles managing their children’s screen time. Your broadband provider may provide some controls, but they are blunt and end up limiting your access as well.
