recently, apple decided to repeat the mistakes of the past rather than learn from them, and added a "feature" that was loathed back at the start of 2007 with the release of windows vista.
naturally, as is one of Microsoft's (few) strengths, they provided options to customise many aspects of this glass (they called it aero) effect.

apple... only has one option, "make transparent objects solid", which techniCALLout recommends.

https://support.apple.com/en-gu/guide/iphone/iph3e2e1fb0/ios

> Make transparent items solid
Some backgrounds appear transparent or blurred by default. You can make these transparent backgrounds opaque by giving them a solid color. In this way you simplify those parts of your screen and make them easier to see.

1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.

2. Turn on Reduce Transparency.

techiCALLout refuses to use "ai" (good reason for the quote marks).
for whatever little good they might do for anyone, it is so grossly outweighed by the bad that the good pales in comparison to an almost vanishing point.

I won't be listing them here as the posts would become too long and unmanageable and unattractive to read.

you can rest assured that nothing you receive or hear from techniCALLout has be due to any involvement with, or use of, "ai".

if you're comfortable enough to use an "ai", techniCALLout suggests asking it why it's called an "ai" and see what it "says".

techniCALLout believe that prevention is much more important than fixing.

there's a reason we put on seat belts.
there's a reason we wear crash helmets.
there's a reason we look before we leap.

this extends to tech

there's a reason we put dash cams in our cars.
there's a reason we make a backup copy of our important files.
there's a reason we read the manual before using our new tech. (please people, read your instruction manuals 🫠)

if you'd like any help with preventative measures with your tech, such as making an easy cheap backup, or learning best practice for your tech to minimise risk of failure, give us a techniCALLout at your nearest convenience, or send us a message on your preferred messaging platform.

It's important to know that any time you see something that used "ai" (quote marks for good/depressing reason) it contributed to this, and worse.

all the tech we use are simply tools, though their complexity has grown so far beyond what we typically think of as tools.

got a nail? use a hammer!
got a screw? a hammer is no good!

of my many sayings that get me through life, one of them is "there's a tool for every job".

if we aren't using the intended tool the right way, we may as well be using the wrong tool.

and if we aren't taught how to use the tool, will we be able to teach ourselves right?

techniCALLout can advise in a vast range of tech.
we can show you how to use the tech you have.
we can advise on which tech would better suit the task.
we can educate on how the tech could be completely circumvented where applicable.

techniCALLout doesn't just fix. we prefer to prevent through education, long before something gets broken.

if you feel you aren't getting the most out of your tech, maybe you even get a sense of fear going near it, give us a techniCALLout and we'll settle all your tech worries.

techniCALLout charges less for teaching than for fixing.

On buying ourselves a new phone (after much research!), techniCALLout learnt of a feature unique to the Google Pixel line of phones.
They can automatically transcribe the call you're in, allowing you to read rather than listen.
This is especially helpful when you're answered by a bot that's reading out menu options.
It even shows those options as buttons you can press.

Despite how revolutionary this feature is, techniCALLout will still recommend to most people they only spend around £200.

We suggest avoiding apple (pay more get less, become trapped) and Samsung (worst bloatware of all). There's plenty of other android phones that are better than samsung, such as motorolla, and Nokia (they're still around, kind of, HMD now).

For any other tips and tricks, guidance, help, advice, or anything to do with any of your tech, make a techniCALLout, or send a message on your preferred messaging platform.

it's never too late to learn something new, and there should never be shame in learning anything, no matter what it is, when you learn it, or how you learn it, as long as it's not misinformation but i digress.

today i learnt of a useful website that I was not aware of before.

powercuts.nationalgrid.co.uk

useful for getting updates on a powercut based on the location you request.

Are you a parent?
Are your children below the age of adulthood?
Do they have a smartphone?
Do they use snapchat?

Contact techniCALLout at your nearest convenience to learn the horrors of this insidious app.

It actively feeds them adult content.
It utilises multiple addictive methods to make them use the app every day, communicate with as many people as possible every day, and especially to send "selfies" as the primary form of communication.
It encourages making connections with complete strangers.
It secretly takes data and shares it with "connections".
And more...

The conversation with your child will not be easy, much like getting anyone else off a shameful addiction, removing them from something that is "popular" and "everyone else is doing" as part of their "social life"...

For more on any matter you have with any tech, big or small, common or obscure, make a techniCALLout, or message us on your preferred platform (not snapchat 😅).

Sharing with permission from the customer I recently helped, their phone's storage was full due to whatsapp doing it's usual thing of storing everything you ever receive over it on your phone, unlike other "cloud" based services that never store anything on your phone unless you specifically actively tell it to download a copy.

always remember: apple is pay more and get less

ever felt stupid?

no one is actually stupid. we just have different experiences in life, which has imparted us with different skills and knowledge.

I wasn't born with a deep understanding of technology.
but every time i felt there was something i didn't know, i investigated, i tinkered, i experimented, but most importantly of all, i asked.
over time, that knowledge and experience built, and built, and built.
i will always have more to learn, but i make the effort to continue learning every time the chance arises.

what truly separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom, is our ability to exchange thoughts with phenomenal accuracy. our language. communication.

but we cannot communicate if we do not use words in the same way. I am convinced that 90%+ of "fights" or "squabbles" are down to people using the same word but having a different meaning, and never stopping to ask "what do you mean when you say..."

which brings me onto my advice, and a share.

never feel shame, ever, on asking a question. on doubting your own knowledge. on being unable to remember something.
we're only human. our brains are electrified meat. why do we put so much trust in them. feel free to look things up, ask the question, ask it again if you forgot or don't understand. do yourself a favour by freeing yourself of the fear of learning, or "looking the fool".

and so, onto one of my favourite websites, as it's both educational, and amusing, the best of combinations.
