Watch out for social media scams this Christmas!

Scammers are always looking for ways to target unsuspecting victims. In the past couple of years, placing fake advertising on social media sites or cloning legitimate sites and then posting online fake 'too good to be true' offers have been on the rise. It’s difficult to tell if it’s a legitimate seller on social media, so where possible, do your research, if you’re unsure don’t buy it, and if you do make the purchase, make sure you use a credit card or PayPal account as these often give you more protection should it turn out to be a scam.

Don't get caught by fake gift cards this Christmas!

With the holiday season upon us, cybercriminals are out in force and ready to exploit unsuspecting shoppers. Scammers are known to use fake gift card websites to steal your money or personal information. They can be hard to spot, so make sure you buy cards from legitimate retailers and check the back of the card for an activation code.

When an online deal isn't such a great deal, but a scam!

It's the season of giving, but not all "deals" you find online for Christmas are legitimate. With retailers pushing out their holiday sales and promotions, it can be hard to differentiate between authentic deals and offers and fraudulent ones. Scammers know this all too well and will use it to their advantage. If an online deal looks too good to be true, then it probably is! Make sure you thoroughly research the origin of the deal and the company selling it. If you still have any doubt about the legitimacy of the deal or product, walk away!

Don’t Get Phished This Christmas!

Phishing emails are a common daily occurrence now, but during the Christmas season, cybercriminals are operating at full force. Receiving emails from unknown sources, especially ones that claim to be offering free gifts or huge discounts on products are likely to be phishing attempts. To stay cyber safe the Christmas, always check that the sender is legitimate before clicking on any links and be sure to delete any emails that look suspicious.

Cyber criminals attack indiscriminately - to a hacker you are just a target, they want your data, your money, or both! The unfortunate truth is that many small businesses don’t give enough thought to cybercrime prevention until it’s too late.

Every interface between a company’s network and the internet has the potential for vulnerabilities to be exploited. An attacker only needs to be right, or lucky, once to compromise a system. A worrying statistic is that only 54% of the businesses recently surveyed acted in the last 12 months to identify their cyber risks. This leaves the door wide open, and hackers will happily take full advantage and go through it!

Just Say No To Hackers is dedicated to helping small businesses with cyber protection. Contact us for information on how to get your business protected.

Small business owners think they’re too small for hackers to be interested in them. This couldn’t be further from the truth! A recent survey reported that 83% of the 39% of businesses that identified a cyber attack in the last 12 months were phishing attempts. What is worrying is that phishing is one of the most common cyber attacks targeting small businesses.

Phishing is when cybercriminals will try to trick you or your employees into giving them sensitive information such as login credentials or financial details. They do this by sending emails that look like they're from a legitimate source, such as your bank or a trusted website. Then, once they have the information, they need to gain access, they use it to access your accounts and steal your money. Phishing is one of the most common cyber attacks targeting small businesses.
