Are you paying for licences nobody's using?

It happens more than you'd think. A team member leaves and their Microsoft 365 licence keeps running. Someone's on the wrong tier for what they actually need. A tool gets paid for separately when it's already included in your existing plan.

We regularly run licensing reviews for clients and find them savings. It's a quick check that can make a real difference to your monthly costs.

A client of ours recently went through a full IT overhaul, and their review sums up exactly why we do this work.

We handled their Microsoft 365 migration, put email security and antivirus in place, and set up a new 3CX phone system. It was a big project, but the goal was simple: give them technology that just works, without them having to think about it.

Here's what Dave Buchanan at told us afterwards:

"Atmosphere IT took care of our Microsoft 365 migration, got email security and antivirus in place, and set up our new 3CX phone system, a comprehensive overhaul that has made a real difference to how we operate day to day. The team managed everything efficiently and made sure it was all properly configured before handing over.

It's great to have the peace of mind that our communications and security are in good hands. Responsive, professional, and nothing was too much trouble. Thoroughly recommended."

If your business is overdue a similar overhaul, we'd be glad to talk it through.

Call us on 01753 255 300 or email [email protected].

πŸ”¦ Spotlight On... Norman Fider.

Norman joined Atmosphere IT as a contractor last October, and by November the team already knew he was a keeper. He's been a permanent member of staff ever since, 10 months and counting as a Senior Support Technician.

Day to day, he's fielding queries and requests of every level by email and phone, and jumping onto a remote session whenever something needs a closer look.

When he's not on the tools, he's usually deep in a technical podcast on YouTube, whether that's new features in Microsoft Intune or the latest in DJ software.

Ask him where to grab lunch locally and he won't hesitate: Big Thumb for a Salt & Pepper Box.

Great to have you on the team, DJ Norman 🎢

We had a call this week from a client who had forgotten her password.

It was the fourth or fifth time. Every time she changes it, she forgets the new one within a few weeks, and every time it means a support call, a reset, and loss productivity.

It is such a common problem that we thought it was worth talking about properly, rather than just fixing it quietly in the background.

The honest fix is a password manager like 1Password. Here is what it actually does for you:
πŸ”‘ One master password - remember just one, and it handles the rest
⚑ Auto fill logins - no more typing, no more "was it Password1234 or PetsFirstName"
πŸ’³ Stores card details too - check out online in seconds, no digging for your wallet
πŸ”’ Bank level encryption - everything is protected properly, not left lying around
πŸ‘₯ Secure sharing - share logins with your team without ever revealing the actual password
πŸ“± Works everywhere - desktop, phone, browser, all kept in sync
🚨 Breach alerts - get warned if any of your saved logins turn up in a data leak

And from a security point of view, it matters more than people think. We still come across passwords written on sticky notes, saved in spreadsheets, or shared over email.

🚫 None of these are safe, and all of them are exactly what cyber criminals look for.

If you or your team are still relying on memory (or a notepad) for passwords, it might be time for a better way. βœ…

"I enjoy making a real difference." That's how our Founder and Managing Director, Dan Hayward, sums up his favourite part of the job.

From setting the direction of Atmosphere IT to solving problems and improving security for our clients, Dan's still hands on after building the business from the ground up.

A few things you might not know about him:
🚲 His first job was a paperboy, covering up to 12 miles a day around the hills near Legoland
πŸͺ Chocolate Hobnobs are, in his words, the best biscuit ever
🦾 His fictional teammate pick is Tony Stark, for the innovation and the "think differently" mindset
🏎 His dream client is an Aston Martin dealership, for the IT challenge and the view

Want to work with a team that thinks like Dan does? Get in touch.

Still using a text message or phone call to log into Microsoft 365? That's about to change!

Microsoft has confirmed it's retiring SMS and voice call MFA across Entra ID πŸ“²

From September 2026, passkeys become the default and anyone on text or call based MFA will be prompted to register one. From February 2027, Microsoft stops providing SMS and voice authentication altogether, no fallback option.

Here's the catch most businesses won't see coming.

Passkeys are tied to the device they're created on. If your team moves between a laptop, phone and tablet, a passkey set up on one won't just appear on the others. Without a proper way to sync them, staff can end up locked out simply for not being at the right device.

A password manager closes that gap. It stores passkeys securely and syncs them across every device your team uses, so signing in works the same whether someone's in the office or on the road.

The rollout starts in a matter of weeks. If you don't currently use a password manager, now's the time to plan ahead rather than deal with locked out staff later.

For more info, check out our latest blog post here: https://atmosphereit.co.uk/microsoft-is-retiring-text-and-phone-mfa/

We can review your current authentication setup and get your team ready before Microsoft's deadlines land.

🐾 IT Support & Future Police Dogs! 🐾

Today we had the pleasure of our client Purnima Gore from Project GPS visit Atmosphere IT HQ, for some support from our resident Apple expert Norman.

While Norman was busy helping with the IT side of things, he may have been slightly distracted by a very special visitor... Shelby, a police training puppy, who stole the show the moment he walked through the door with Purnima! 🐢

At Atmosphere IT we're proud to be a dog-friendly office, and clients are always welcome to bring their four-legged friends along for the visit. In fact, we're not entirely convinced Shelby wasn't supervising Norman's work 🀣

Who else thinks every business meeting would be better with a puppy present? 🐾

πŸ“Έ Bonus points if you can spot who enjoyed the visit more... Norman or Shelby! πŸ˜„

Most cyber attacks don't announce themselves. They creep in through small, seemingly harmless events that only look dangerous once you connect the dots.

That's the problem EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) is built to solve.

We use Acronis Security + EDR to give businesses proper visibility into what's happening across their endpoints, not just a wall of alerts nobody has time to read.

Here's what it actually does:
πŸ” Maps attacks against the MITRE framework, so you can see how a threat got in, what it did, and how it spread
πŸ€– Uses AI to prioritise real threats instead of burying your team in low value alerts
⚑ Lets you respond with a single click, isolating affected devices and terminating malicious processes
πŸ”„ Rolls back changes and recovers files or full systems through integrated backup
πŸ›‘ Applies data protection built around GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSS standards

The goal isn't just detecting problems. It's containing them fast enough that they never become a full blown incident.

If your current setup can tell you something happened but not what to do about it, that's worth a conversation.

Nearly half of UK businesses reported a cyber security breach or attack in the past year.

If your backup and security are still separate tools, patched together and hoping for the best, that gap is exactly where ransomware gets in.

We work with Acronis because it brings backup, disaster recovery, cyber security, and endpoint management into one platform rather than several disconnected ones. That means your data, whether it's on a workstation, a server, or in Microsoft 365, is backed up and actively protected at the same time.

What that looks like in practice:
πŸ”’ Backup for local, cloud, and Microsoft 365 data, centralised in one place
πŸ›‘ Multi layered security with anti malware, vulnerability scanning, and exploit prevention
πŸ“Š EDR for faster detection and response when something does go wrong
βœ‰ Email security that blocks phishing and malicious messages before they land
πŸ–₯ Patch management to keep systems updated without the manual chasing

If your current setup treats backup and security as two separate problems, it's worth a conversation about bringing them together.

Being local isn't just convenient, it means faster onsite support when something needs a hands-on fix, and a genuine stake in seeing local SMBs succeed.

We're based in the Berkshire village of Binfield, right in the heart of the local community.

We work with businesses across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey and the wider South East, but our roots are here. When a client down the road needs someone in front of a screen, we can be there quickly, not queued behind a call centre.

Supporting local business isn't a tick-box exercise for us. It's who we are and where we work.
