Threads of the Leger | Community Artwork on a Grand Scale
Two banners. Each covering 100 square meters. A shared celebration of 250 years of the St Leger.
At the heart of Threads of the Leger were shared workshops bringing together local schoolchildren and care home residents.
Together, they contributed drawings, patterns and ideas inspired by the racecourse, its history and the Doncaster communities around it.
Their ideas and artwork became two large-scale banners celebrating 250 years of the St Leger.
XG’s role was to take that artwork from workshop to racecourse, producing two large-format fabric banners that could be appreciated from a distance and explored in detail up close.
Printed onto lightweight flag fabric, each banner was finished with header tape and grab handles to help the team deploy and position it on site.
Installed just beyond the track, the finished banners gave local creativity a prominent place in the anniversary celebrations, with the participants’ contributions forming part of a much bigger picture.
