The Chewton Glen is one of Smartworks' longest-standing hospitality clients and is a name synonymous with exceptional customer service.

The team has been busy supporting a top-down renovation of all food and beverage spaces within the Hotel by providing a modern multi-room music and smart lighting system based around Control4.

In this unique and really special environment, technology needs to complement the interior design strategy, so we selected pendant-style speakers that have been custom powder-coated to match the restaurant’s colour scheme.

The Control4 system provides an intuitive user interface in the form of portable touch screens deployed behind bars and on waiter stations for staff to manage music and lighting services, contributing to an exceptional dining experience.

The music system is driven by an array of amplifiers and architectural speakers supplied by Origin Acoustics, and we marked the completion of the project with a walk-around tour of the Hotel with their President, Mark Fisher.

We’d like to thank the Hotel for including us in this exciting project, and to our suppliers and partners, Control4, Habitech, Custom AV Distribution - CAVD, and Origin Acoustics.

Looking back at some of the projects completed at the end of last year, I’m really fond of this one, completed in December by Andy our Technical Director. A simple but really effective poolhouse media room installation where the technology components really complement the interior design and vice versa.

Another fascinating engagement for the Smartworks team courtesy of our long standing relationship with Bang and Olufsen as a preferred installer. This time working with to commission a three dimensional soundscape for a multisensory dining experience! Featuring B&Os thunderous centre channel and sound processor - the BeoSound Theatre, driving an array of compact powerhouse BeoLab 8 surround speakers creating an immersive sound that is melded effortlessly to Chef Jozef Youssef’s innovative gastronomic style, creating a truly unique guest experience.

One of perks of working in AV is access to some really cool home cinema kit. I have a 77” LG OLED smart TV at home and a 149” cinema screen with full ATMOS surround sound in the office. However, for some reason - and I couldn’t tell you why if I tried - I like to sit in front of these awesome systems and watch Netflix on my phone with my Airpods in. Speaking to family and friends it seems that I’m not the only one that likes to use tech in unusual ways. My mum uses her Alexa exclusively as a means of timing the boiling of eggs and I have a friend that uses their smart lighting system to make their cat feel like someone is at home during working hours when they’re out. How we use technology at home is deeply subjective and personal and that’s why our design processes, product selections, implementation strategies and support methodologies at Smartworks are lead by dispelling preconceptions and assumptions and wholly by getting to know our clients and what makes them tick.

The Smartworks team has just completed this stunning media wall project for a client in Milton Keynes featuring a 77” LG OLED display and the mighty Bang and Olufsen BeoSound Theatre soundbar. An exceptional centre piece for a premium new-build residential project incorporating smart lighting, multi-room audio, access control, security, EV charging with a Control4 Core3 processor - bringing these services together for the new owners in a simple user interface. Our electrical team also commissioned an EV charger and a number of improvements to electrical components over and above the properties standard specification.
