Hi everyone! 👋 Some of you will know my background is in magazine design, and I've now been given the opportunity to launch No.6 Local - Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire – a new community page, digital magazine & website! 🩵

We'll be sharing local news, events and showcasing the fantastic businesses we have on our doorstep.

I'd love to get to know more local companies and share their stories, so if you've got some information and photos about your business, I'd love to do an article for anyone interested for the 1st digital magazine coming out in December.

📧 [email protected]

I'm setting up a new local community page, Digital Magazine & Website to bring people in Derbyshire together, share local news and events and help residents discover great local businesses.

I'd love to get to know more of the businesses in the area and help showcase what makes them special.

We would love to hear a little about your business and to feature you in one of our local business introductions. Please pop me a message or email if you have a story or business to share.

It’s the smallest messages that can mean the most 🥰💜

I’ve been creating designs and printing for Oakwood Eyecare and Hearing Centre for the last 3 years, and they’ve just approved their latest order!

Building relationships and really getting to know my customers is one of the things I love most about what I do.

They know me, they trust me and the fact that the artwork was approved on the very first draft shows that I know them and their brand just as well. 🥰

❗️WEBSITE PHP SECURITY UPDATE ⚠️

Many people have seen on the news yesterday that there was a Global Wide Cyber Security Issue.

I just wanted to reassure all my website hosting customers that your website server is covered by an automatic patching programme. My tech team is applying the security updates for the PHP vulnerability (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, known as php2shell) across all hosting services as the fixes become available from the software vendors, so you don't need to take any action.

We are continuing to monitor the situation and apply the necessary updates to help keep your website secure.

🎓 How do you learn best? Take a look below and see what type of learner you are. 🎨

I'm a VISUAL learner, where I learn best from seeing something written down or from images. I love a good to-do list where I can highlight my completed tasks visually.

However, if someone tells me something verbally then there is no way I would remember it without taking note. Just ask my Mum who has told me about 10 times when I need to feed her cats while she is on holiday - In the end I just said send it in a text so I remember 🐱😆

There are several types of learner...

Visual - learn from looking

Aural - learn from listening

Verbal - learn from speaking out loud

Physical - learn from doing

Logical - learn from working things out

Social - learn from social environments

Do you know how you learn best or what you struggle with? Let me know in the comments 😃

How 6pence started & the journey to get here! 🎨

I've always had a love for art and design and back when I was 4yrs old I won an art competition and I was on the TV (photo of me with the Presenter) - I'm sure thats where my passion for design must have started 🥰

Before I took to my Art & Design Degree, I wanted to be a Zoo Keeper, I even went on a course at Broomfield College - Afterwards I decided that if I went into designing I could combine the two! My dream client would be a Zoo/Farm (if there are any takers) 😆

After Uni I got a job as a Typesetter. I'd spend all day every day typing up text from documents that had come through the Fax machine 😱 - probably where I get my speedyness from.

I've been made redundant 3 times, the 1st I went back to the same company as a newspaper designer.

The second time, I went on to be a magazine designer in Nottingham (I loved designing the magazines)

I left that role to move closer to Derby and became a Graphic Designer for all things Print! - that's where I learnt so much about the printing world.

My 3rd redundancy was a big one which hit me hard... in the middle of Covid and 6 months pregnant! I had no idea what to do and where to go next....

I took a chance and messaged a local magazine company to see if they needed any help. To my surprise, Mark from Derby Magazines, gave me the chance I needed. I rebranded his magazine and this gave me the confidence that I could do it on my own.

So I decided, with much encouragement from my friends and family, to put my 15 years of experience into good use.

THAT'S WHEN 6PENCE DESIGNS WAS BORN 💜

It is BY FAR the best thing to ever happen. My work / life balance has finally come together and I can happily say... I LOVE MY JOB 💜
