AdamZacks - It Support Services I can empathise with busy 'family' people and that absolute chaos that IT issues bring and work with them to understand, explain and resolve the problem.

After re-working the school computers at age 12 and attending both college and university in IT courses I have worked with computers of all sorts for over 17 years. With a young family of my own and family and friends of varying ages, I know and understand how it feels to be a parent, student or just a busy computer user when things go wrong. That is where I come in. Although I am quite happy to w

ork in a company or organisation of any size I have found that it is particularly rewarding to work with 'family people', parents, students and people in a panic because nothing goes wrong at the best time. For more information please contact Adam at [email protected]

Just a quick post to say that I hope everyone had a good Christmas and all best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!

The other day I went to see a client who had an older iMac computer. The computer was a 2009 machine and he had obviously taken good care of it.

However it had not been re-loaded all cleaned out since it was first started in 2009.

As you can imagine it had a large amount of data on it which was unneeded and slowing the computer down.

After a quick reload of the operating system and clearing out of data (obviously backing up pictures contacts Etc) it was running like a new machine.

Obviously not blisteringly fast because it’s almost 10 years old but certainly at least as good as it was when new.

A misconception is that computers slowdown as they get older, not true. By loading and unloading software over time and clogging up the system with unneeded data there is a hit on performance.

Added to that the programs we use over time require more and more resources. But if you’re just using the computer for email and browsing there is no reason why it shouldn’t work just as well as it did when it was new for all time.

Although I am sure we all avoid re-loading computers till the last possible minute it is important to every so often clean the decks and make sure our computers are running in tiptop condition.

You may just be able to save yourself the cost of buying a new computer just by refreshing the old.

At a client helping to correct issues they were having with their desktop computer, it became clear that the issue was not with the computer but with the wireless network.

One of the access points used by this particular computer was faulty and therefore the connection to the Internet was intermittent. This had the effect of producing unexpected errors on the computer which were misinterpreted as software problems.

It's amazing how much software and computers in general now depend on the Internet. Issues completely unrelated to the computer can quite easily lead in the wrong direction.

Just bear this in mind for any issues you may be experiencing.

Bloody Microsoft.
Can someone please explain the logic of have:
Preparing to download
Downloading
Preparing to install
Installing
Cleaning up install

And eventually

Completing install

I mean really, it’s only a security patch!

I did some work on a clients laptop the other week. Basically I had to replace the keyboard. Thing is with all laptops I have ever worked on you take off the front (which has the keyboard attached) and everything is bolted to the base.

However with this particular one you take off the base and everything is bolted to the keyboard.

All went well but was the strangest build design I’ve ever seen.

From time to time a Mac can get a little fidgety. I may have issues going to sleep, waking up and shutting down.

Read this, it may help:

Is your Mac acting just…odd? Stuff like drives not appearing, screens not adjusting correctly, Bluetooth problems, AirPort non connecting? Maybe your fan is running non-stop or your battery has said that it is 50% charged…for two days…and your MacBook is plugged in. Yeah, these aren’t problems that…

Hi all, I hope everyone's computers survived last night's show?

Me personally I love the rain thunder and lightning I love to lay in bed and listen to it as I fall asleep it's brilliant.

On the other hand for computers it can be a bad thing. For those of you who don't have surge protectors either on the house or between the power socket and computer you really should consider. It is essential.

The idea is that the electrical surge if it enters your property will go as far as the surge protector and then the surge protector will protect the device by blowing.

This would mean that your computer would turn off and that your surge protector will most likely not work in the morning but at least your computer will be safe.

Mac users should be extremely careful where this is concerned because the power supply in an iMac generally cost around £300 to replace.

In-line power supply surge protectors are reasonably cheap and can be bought from most electrical or diy stores.

I get lots of people asking me what the difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 is.

My answer is simple, Windows 10 is what Windows 8 should have been from the start.

It is easier to use (in my opinion) then Windows 8.1 but not as easy to use as Windows 7 or that king among operating systems (for you PC lovers) Windows XP!

I am interested to know what other people think. Please comment below and tell me what is your favourite PC operating system and why.?

I am also interested in Mac users but as we all know Mac is the best anyway 😉

Spoke to my mother the other day, turns out that her iMac a 27 inch shiny I'll Almighty powerful thing was turned off one Friday night and then never turned back on again. Thankfully was under warranty and sent back and turns out the power supply had blown. Sounds crazy but it does happen. Even to the mighty Apple.

Just got back from a trip away. Turned off the computer and all the external hard drive's before I went.

Made me think of this post. When your computer has been off for awhile if you have external devices hard drives CD ROMs etc. Make sure to always turn on all the external devices first and then your computer.

This can help with booting up for the first time and may help solve some of those first restart back from holiday just.

If you're out in the garden chilling and relaxing this weekend and you happen to have a laptop with you, try not to leave it on the grass or in the sun for too long.

Grass, pollen, bugs and other things might get sucked up into it through the fan which tend to be underneath or they may just overheat!

That would put a nasty dent in your nice day.

Happy summer morning everyone. In these days of hot warm and enjoyable weather lets not forget our little computer friends.

Those of you who have computers that are by the window without curtains or blinds should bear in mind to leave the window open (If possible) a little bit.

So that there is some sort of airflow to the back of the computer. This will prevent the computer from overheating and shutting itself down or worse.
