"Budget" or free hosting is never free. You just pay for it later.

That £2-a-month deal works one way: one server, packed with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of websites. Every one of them is fighting over the same limited resources.

The result?

→ Pages that crawl, especially when you're busiest
→ Downtime you might not even notice until a customer tells you
→ No proper backups, so if something breaks, it can stay broken
→ Security gaps that leave your site exposed

And it doesn't stop at a frustrating experience. Google wants to give searchers fast answers. If your site is slower than your competitors', they get pushed up, and you don’t.

We don't recommend budget hosting for any website. Not even a small one.

Simpsons Creative was approached by a local logistics company to help them with their branding, marketing and website. The first step was to establish a core brand by reviewing everything they had in place before creating the master brand assets to ensure everything moving forward would have a consistent look and feel. As part of this process, we also looked at the brand imagery and using these new resources we have created a range of marketing materials to help Alisped promote themselves.

Alongside the design work, we have also taken over their website, which was built in WordPress and needed some work to bring the website, its plugins and the WordPress core in line with the latest versions, this work was undertaken and the website was transferred into our high-performance hosting.

Hosting vs domain name: what's the difference? 🤔

They're often mixed up, but they're two separate services that work together to get your website online.

🏢 Hosting is where your website's files live, on a server that's online 24/7.
📍 A domain name is the friendly web address that points visitors to where your site is hosted.

Think of your website as a shop: hosting is the building, and the domain name is its address.

Need help with either? Get in touch, we're happy to help. 👋

"The cloud is just someone else's computer."

So when you choose hosting for your website, the real question is: how good is that other computer?

Hosting is one of those things most businesses never think about until something goes wrong. Pages load slowly, the site goes down at the worst possible moment, or rankings start to slip for no obvious reason.

In our latest blog post, we explain web hosting in plain English:

→ What hosting actually is, and how it's different from your domain name

→ Budget vs shared vs cloud vs VPS vs dedicated, and which one suits you

→ The warning signs that your hosting is holding your website back

→ When it's time to upgrade

After years of building and managing websites, we've seen how much damage a poor hosting choice can do.

“Our new website has exceeded all expectations. We feel that the usability and specialist features to the website especially the client portal area will enhance user experience and increase traffic to our website. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the Simpsons team, it was collaborative and a clear brief at the start with ongoing communication throughout ensured the project was a success.”

“I first contacted Simpsons Creative after finding them in a Google search, when I was looking to update my website. I felt as if my brand was lacking that professional look of my competitors. I have worked with Simpsons on several projects since, covering a wide range of marketing requirements both on and offline. I am really pleased with the work they have produced for me and will continue to work with them in the future. “ – Ceri Roberts, Director & Educational Psychologist, 3R Psychology & Consulting

"I know the website needs sorting. I just don't know where to begin."

We hear this more than almost anything else, and it's a perfectly good place to start. A good website project begins with a short, clear brief. Not a 40-page document.

Just honest answers to a few questions:
• What is the website for?
• Who needs to use it?
• What's working (and not working) on the current site?
• What does success look like in 12 months?
• What's your budget range and timeline?

You don't need the answers to be polished. Notes and half-formed ideas are fine. Getting them out of your head and onto a page makes every conversation with an agency faster and cheaper, and it protects you from paying for the wrong thing.

We've put together a free Website Brief to walk you through it. Download it, fill in what you can, and send it over. We'll tell you what we'd do with it, even if you're not ready to hire anyone yet.
