Responsibilities:
• Working with agile development methodologies and software delivery.
• To work with the CEO and CTO in Beautiful Canoe, and the client to understand the context and requirements of the client.
• To implement a software product defined in a user story map.
• To refine the user stories and implementation of the product iteratively, based on testing and user feedback.
• To answer technical queries from early adopters of the software.
• To document the implementation of the products

Other responsibilities may also include:
To develop a web site in Laravel/PHP Responsibilities mainly related to
To develop a mobile application in a Javascript framework, such as Ionic, Cordova or Flutter

Duration of role: Approximately 8 months

Person Specification
Personal Specification:
Technical skills (assessed via your covering letter, CV and interview):
· Experience of using git for version control
· Experience of unit testing in at least one common framework (e.g. Junit, phpunit)
· Experience of development with Laravel/PHP (for Role 1)
· Experience of Javascript, HTML5, CSS development (for Role 2)

Non-technical skills (assessed via your video, CV, covering letter and interview):
· We require developers that have demonstrable experience of working in a commercial context
· Self-starter who is self-motivated and has a passion for business and entrepreneurship
• Ability to work independently on own initiative and also to contribute as part of a team
• Willingness and ability to be flexible
• Ability to get on well with a wide variety of people and have challenging conversations when needed.
• A ‘can do’ attitude with a resourceful approach to problem solving
• Happy to work with the client throughout the project duration

Dear students,

Summer is fast approaching! Are you wondering what to do after the exams, then Beautiful Canoe is looking for students that want to push themselves to the next level. Beautiful Canoe is Aston’s student-powered software development company. We craft bespoke software solutions for our clients, while developing the people who do it. We are here to enable you to improve your skills, enhance your confidence, and give you real-world software development experience.

You will be part of a team that creates real software for real clients. We will be there to help you grow as a developer from week to week, both your soft and technical skills! We will support you through the experience as well as making sure you have an amazing time - we know that making great software is not just about coding, but also about creating an environment where you can be open, enjoy what you do and help and support each other.

This summer we will have a number of full-time 10-week volunteer and contractual positions, covering desktop and web applications, as well as Linux system administration. We work with a range of languages including PHP, Java, JavaScript and Python. If this sounds interesting, check here for details:
