Here’s a closer look at the incredible customs built for by the custom shop! 🔥 After blind testing multiple IEMs from different manufacturers in their studio, rehearsing with the ears to get a feel for them and getting into the details of their setups, the band chose the 64Audio sound and are running a mixture of A18s and A12ts for their new ears. Coming from a legacy manufacturer with full isolation, a key point of difference was the tone, headroom and the APEX venting helping give the band much more space in the mix and eliminating issues with the occlusion effect vocally and being less fatiguing too. Design wise, the guys were creative and sent over several ideas, one of which was sending a picture of his guitar pick logo for the faceplate which, when we couldn’t find the file we remade for him. We’re stoked how these turned out - which one is your favourite? 🔥

A year ago, a musician reached out asking for help with their IEMs and some advice to fix a few long-standing issues getting in the way of their performance. Twelve months later, have just wrapped their sold-out UK tour with and we caught up with them last month to check in and sign off the project properly, stage-side in Cardiff. Moments like that are exactly why we do what we do.

It’s safe to say the band, management and crew are an incredible team, we’ve learnt and grown so much from being a part of it all (too much for one post!)

Huge shoutout also goes to for welcoming us into monitor world, being a legend, answering all our questions and having us along for the ride as well! We’re stoked with how their customs turned out too, but the whole show was unreal. 🔥

Sleek, sharp, and totally custom. 🖤🤍 We built these Fir Audio Krypton5 IEMs last year for the incredible and it's a perfect example of what DCA is all about: people, musicians & community.⁠ After catching up and servicing his IEMs recently, we had the privilege of sitting in on guitar for Vince and his band at a festival last weekend, it was a blast so thanks for trusting us to step in! 🔥 Huge shoutout to the rhythm section and keeping things solid, plus crew on monitors for looking after us too!

So there’s a lot of debate around ambient IEMs — in reality, there’s no right or wrong and something for everyone’s setup. Take , as an example:
🎧 Classic Series (-26dB) gives you full isolation and focus. Great for anyone who needs to lock in with total control of their mix and sound.
🎧 Ambient Series (-10dB to -23dB) keeps you connected to the stage with controlled bleed, thanks to tuned ambient ports and filters — great for players who rely on backline sound or room energy or want to reduce the occlusion effect... (but if things get too heavy, you can block it off!)

Same great sound signature in both — just two different ways to stay in the zone. So how much control do you need on stage?

So the results are in… these C8A are a real workhorse! Built with our 3D Ear Impressions, we’ve been enjoying putting it through its paces recently and we’re super impressed! Why do this? At DCA we feel it’s really important to not just recommend off spec but actively work, perform and mix with new IEMs to see how they fit, feel and sound in the real world - this helps us be objective and transparent when helping other music industry professionals decide which IEM is best for them. The C8A has a real crisp punchy low end, tonnes of headroom, a wide stereo image and a real musical detail you might only expect from far more expensive customs, we’re really impressed and know this will tick a lot of boxes for Musicians and Engineers alike. Plus we love the gold engraved custom artwork, the shell engraving colour options, quick build time and the reassuring sturdy ProX cable! We’re always grateful to work with incredible, humble Musicians at the top of their game - and we’re stoked with how these custom built .audio Krypton5s for session bassist came out! He wanted a new set of IEMs with a realistic low-end he could rely on to dial in a solid DI tone on tour, and after a demo at out London office the Kinetic bass of the Kr5s hit the spot! Design wise, he also wanted a slick black and gold theme. So we worked with FiR to create custom black & gold faceplates to offset against the Matt black shells and we think they look awesome. We can’t wait to see these out in the road at some point soon! 🔥🔥🔥

What might the ultimate Custom In Ear Monitor for a working musician look like? Well in many ways, we think they’d look something like this! At first glance, these Custom In Ears might look different, and you’re right they are and for good reason which in our opinion is positive step forward for Musicians & Engineers alike!

Take the idea of an IEM needing to isolate enough to keep you safe, fit well enough to be comfortable for a 12hr+ show day, be durable enough that it will last you a long time, arrive within a week and also be upgradable if you ever needed something new… Bellos Audio have hit all of these in one In Ear Monitor with a pressure vented, upgradable Custom with a 5 day build. These things do put the cat amongst the pigeons and there’s almost so many cool technologies in these IEMs to mention in one post!

In our experience though from giggin these recently Customs are probably the comfiest we’ve ever worn with their proprietary In Ar Canals, a shorter ear canal that utilises a ‘in air tip’ to seal you ear no matter what you do - and as a vocalist, even the funkiest falsetto can’t unsettle these bad boys! Couple that with athe ATOM venting it meant that our ears didn’t feel tired afterwards either which is a testiment to a company willing to go against the status quo and do things differently! Ever wondered why you’d need 18(!) speakers in each ear? 🔥Well the answer is pretty simple - headroom. With 8 Drivers for the Lows, and 8 for the low mids, the A18s have a shedload!… Let me explain ✍️ Full disclosure, this is a concept I know I didn’t fully understand until I tried out some higher driver count Customs but it all comes down to how they handle the power and dynamics of your mix! Think of a Guitar Amp Vs a Bass Amp. A guitar amp can be obnoxiously loud at 22watts of power, but to get the same level of neighbour-rattling volume from a Bass amp, you’ll probably need 200w, maybe 400w of power to push out those longer wavelength low frequencies! Thats why, of the 18 drivers here, 16 are dedicated to the lows and low mids, meaning as your mix ramps up and changes there is always enough space and power to replicate all that beefy, punchy sonic information without compromising on dynamics, feel or swamping key elements in your mix! Couple that with a 4-way crossover, APEX pressure relief and the 64s TIA high driver, these are a pretty phenomenal piece of engineering! You’ll see Artists like Metallica, Sleep Token and U2 amongst many others using these as their goto IEMs live! 🔥 Have I missed anything? Let me know in the comments below! Like this kind of thing? Behind the scenes, 'Custom' often means doing a lot more work than you might expect, and at DCA isn't just about pressing 'Go' on a design. Our client wanted a specific look that wasn't an option on the designer for their FiR Audio Krypton5s. They loved 2 different designs, one Green 'Olive Flame Pattern' and but loved the smokier black and blues from other faceplates. DCA is uniquely set up to have a direct relationship with all our partners for moments like this! So we worked with the amazing production team at .usa over several weeks to create a bespoke faceplate, that would blend seamlessly with the gloss black shells (Pic 4), had proofs with colour options made for our Client to OK (Pic 5) and when they had chosen and were happy with the final plates (Pic 7), we signed off the design and finished the build! We're Musicians too, Customs are an investment and an expression of your personality, so we like to make sure every set, no matter the price, is as good as it can be! We need Customs by next weekend, can you help? On-Site Impressions Monday (pic 5), sent Friday for Saturday morning (Pic 6), so yeah sure! We get asked this a lot and DCA's main focus has always been to be person-centred, not sales led and able to react to the needs of Musicians, Engineers and the live music community. We get it, so will always help out where we can. These 3 Evolves were for a team in Wales needing new customs for a festival the following week, so big thanks to them for trusting DCA to help out, and to our friends at ACS for the express 48hr build to make sure we hit the deadline. 🔥🤘 Summers rolling on fast, so if you're thinking of new Impressions or IEMs this August or looking ahead to Winter shows or Tours, feel free to drop us a message, we'll see what we can do!
