SCAM ALERT

I have had a couple of clients over the last few days that have been subject to a Scam.
As they logged into the internet, a pop up message (see below) came up and said that they had been compromised. The message suggests it is from Microsoft BUT IT IS NOT..

One customer called me straight away and was ok

The other person clicked on the ALLOW button which then gave the Scammers access to their PC, After an hour fiddling around, they asked for his bank details. Lucky he did not divulge them, but did give them his mobile phone number and land line number.

I have collected the PC and it is now being checked over to see what they have done.

If you get this message on your screen, DO NOT CLICK ON THE ALLOW BUTTON, switch your PC off and get help from an IT professional

Technical Support, whether that be for a PC problem or your washing machine has broken. What does the Technical Support person need from you??

Answer – a good concise description of the fault. If it is on a PC, use the snipping tool and capture the error report so that you can tell the person you are talking to exactly what the error says.

Quite often I have had a fault described to me that I have started to look at, where the actual fault is nothing to do with that.

A new customer contacted me a few weeks ago and wanted support with his company’s computer network, which he had put together over the years, but now needs it sorting properly.

The first stage was a review of his current computers, network, storage, backup and his security products.

This weekend, we have
• rebuilt his computer room area
• installed a Battery Backup Unit to keep his network running in the event of short power outages
• installed a NAS Storage device to move his company files and folders over to
• upgraded his network security software from a mixture of free anti-virus products to Sophos Intercept-X with ADR technology
• upgraded his legacy Microsoft office products to Office 365 Business
• Replaced one old PC
• Replaced an old laptop

His network can now be remotely
• Monitored incase of network issues
• Routers can be reviewed to see if there are network/internet problems
• Anti-virus alerts if any issues are found on the pcs
• Backup monitored to ensure that they are working each night
• PCs can be remote accessed for support
He now has the ability to have his staff work from home on Virtual Private Networks (VPN) so that if they need to shut the offices due to Covid restrictions, they can carry on working.

All that is needed now are the decorators with a bit if filler and a dash of paint.

A recent installation of a combined CCTV and Ajax alarm system

These two systems integrate nicely, the CCTV has it's own App on your phone / pc / tablet / MAC for remote monitoring.

The Ajax Alarm has an app for your phone/tablet which also incorporates an option to live view the UNV cameras.

The alarm system not only has the normal sensors in the rooms and doors, but has a glass break sensor in the conservatory and water leak alert, just incase there is a little mishap under their fish tank, or if the water pipe bursts again in the kitchen.

If you forget to alarm your system, you can do it remotely from anywhere your phone/tablet has internet access.
If you have any alerts (or if there is a water spill under the tank in this case) you will get instant alerts on your phone/tablet (providing you have internet access)

SCAM ALERT

I have been made aware of a computer user (let’s call him Fred) who was phoned by someone pretending to be from Amazon whilst they were on their computer. Although Fred doesn't think he let them onto his computer, just after the call, he found out his bank had been emptied and his PayPal account had also been hacked.

If you get a call from anyone out of the blue from anyone who you may have an account with, DO NOT let them on your computer and DO NOT give them any details of your account details. Ask them for their number/details and say you will call them back. - BUT don't call their number. Instead, go to your bank/utility statement and call the correct number back. If it is a scam, they won’t have a record of why you were called.

Speak with their fraud team and report it and then report the suspicious call to the Police, giving them the date/time phone numbers etc so they can investigate. Then, think about changing your passwords/pin numbers.

So, are you safe and secure? Do you have good anti-virus / security? Look at what anti-virus/security software you are using. Don't just rely on the free versions you get online and don’t necessarily go for the cheapest.

THINK - you may not do online banking, but what about the other sites you for online shopping that have your bank details stored.

Interernal PIR (Pet friendly upto 50cm or 20kg on these PIRs), internal sounder, external bell box and door entry points. All linked into the Ajax Appon their phone, so that they can set or u set the alarm from anywhere they have internet access. If the lark goes off, they can then hop onto the cameras, either from the Ajax alarm app for a quick view, or ho to the Camera’s own app to review live or recorder images.

Does Your Business need a Temperature Scanning Access System

Temperature scanning terminal installed at a warehouse next to their sanitiser station in the entrance foyer.

As staff and visitors arrive, they look into the facial recognition terminal and scan their wrist. If they are recognised as staff (either with or without face mask) and they are under 37.8 degrees, the system will automatically unlock the doors.
If they are not recognised, you are still temperature checked and are allowed entry by a member of staff.

If you are over temperature, you are informed and a warning is given on the remote terminal in the reception office and you are not allowed into the warehouse at that time. The client has a procedure on what to do next.
