April Wrap-Up – What I’ve Learned This Month

A busy month, and a few clear patterns have stood out.

There’s a lot of focus on faster speeds and switching providers, but in reality, most issues I’ve seen haven’t been about the connection at all.

They’ve been about setup.

Poor WiFi, badly positioned routers, and systems that haven’t been reviewed in years are still the most common causes of frustration.

And switching provider rarely fixes any of that.

The setups that work best are the ones that are:
• Properly installed
• Well supported
• Left alone to do their job

Stability and consistency still win every time.

If your broadband or phones aren’t performing as they should, it’s worth looking at the basics before making any big changes.

Simple Ways to Future-Proof Your Setup

I see a lot of businesses chasing the “next big upgrade” when, in reality, most problems come down to the basics not being quite right.

A stable broadband connection, a decent router, and properly set up WiFi will outperform a rushed upgrade every time.

Future-proofing isn’t about constantly changing providers or systems — it’s about building something solid and improving it over time.

A few simple things make a big difference:
• Plan for growth, not just today
• Invest in the right core equipment
• Keep your setup simple and well supported

In most cases, a small amount of planning now avoids a lot of disruption later.

If you’re unsure whether your current setup will stand the test of time, it’s always worth getting a second opinion.

What Businesses Are Prioritising Right Now

I’ve been speaking to quite a few local businesses recently, and there’s a noticeable shift in what people are focusing on.

It’s less about chasing the latest deals… and more about making sure things actually work.

The priorities I’m hearing most are:

• reliability: systems that just work
• support: someone to call when needed
• simplicity: fewer moving parts
• resilience: being prepared if something goes down

There’s definitely less interest in “bells and whistles” and more focus on what keeps the business running day to day.

In many ways, it’s a much more practical approach.

Out of interest, what’s your biggest priority right now when it comes to connectivity?

Opinion: Why “Unlimited” Doesn’t Always Mean Better

“Unlimited” sounds great… doesn’t it?

Unlimited data.
Unlimited calls.
No limits to worry about.

But in reality, it doesn’t always mean better.

In many cases, businesses don’t actually need unlimited usage.

What they really need is:

• consistent performance
• reliable connectivity
• stable call quality
• support when it matters

Because unlimited usage doesn’t guarantee any of those.

I’ve seen plenty of setups where everything is “unlimited”… but still slow, unreliable, or inconsistent.

The best solution is usually the one that fits how the business actually operates — not the one that sounds the biggest.

Out of interest — do you think “unlimited” is genuinely useful, or just a marketing term?

How to Improve Call Quality on VoIP.

If your VoIP calls aren’t clear, the first thought is often:

“Something’s wrong with the internet.”

But in many cases, it’s not the connection. It's how the network is set up.

Common causes of poor call quality include:

• no prioritisation for voice traffic
• weak or inconsistent WiFi
• older routers struggling to cope
• background activity (updates, backups, downloads)

VoIP is very sensitive to how your network is managed.

Even with a good broadband connection, calls can still break up if everything is competing equally.

A few simple changes, like prioritising voice traffic or improving WiFi, can make a big difference.

Have you ever experienced poor call quality even with “fast” broadband?
