Dermatology Photo Triage pathway sees 50% reduction in red flag referrals -Dermatology

It’s not every day that we get a good news story in the health sector but this is one of those days. At a time when the pandemic has had a devastating effect on health service waiting lists people are talking about a future where new ways of working are essential to maximise resources and improve patient outcomes. Instead of talking about it the Northern Ireland Health Service have actually done it. Designed by health service professionals and implemented by Yarra Software the SmartDerm app being rolled out to all GP Federations in Northern Ireland has been shown to reduce red flag referrals for skin cancers by up to fifty percent. Shorter waiting times means faster treatment and better outcomes for patients. Now that is a good news story. Apparently, the future is already here.

Yarra are leading a new collaborative network, Care@Home Innovation Network (C@HIN), focusing on ways to ‘smarten’ and ‘modernise’ domiciliary care to go some way towards reducing the growing gap in the supply and demand in this sector.

C@HIN aims to research, design and deliver a portfolio of technology-based products and services which enhance, re-engineer or re-focus the delivery of the much-needed services in an ever-increasing demand landscape.
The study will identify both technology and service partners who can provide a complementary range of niche expertise to work together to deliver a strong range of possible products and services; which can be used in home care environments not just in NI, but with potential for global reach.
