💚 EASYHELPINGS — WHAT ARE WE ACTUALLY BUILDING?
Do you know what? I thought it was about time I explained a little bit more about what I’m trying to do with EasyHelpings, because there’s a bigger idea behind all those Go and Discover posts I’ve been sharing.
Some of you will have seen me getting out and about, meeting people, visiting local places, sharing events and shining a light on some of the businesses and community organisations we’ve got around us.
And I’ll keep doing that, because I love it. I love meeting people, hearing their stories and finding out what they’re doing. And do you know what always strikes me? Just how much good stuff we’ve already got right here on our own doorstep.
But how much of it goes unnoticed?
How many brilliant little businesses are out there that people have never heard of? How many community groups are doing amazing things but could do with a few more people getting involved? How many events would be even better with a few more people through the door? And how many people have got ideas, skills or ambitions but just need a bit of help, a connection or somebody to give them a chance?
That’s what got me thinking.
I’ve spent years working across hospitality management, logistics, events, sales, marketing and business. I’ve seen things from different angles, worked with all sorts of people and businesses, and got involved in everything from looking after customers and running operations to organising events and getting things delivered.
And over the years, I’ve often found myself thinking, surely there’s a better way of bringing some of this together?
That’s where the idea behind EasyHelpings comes from.
EasyHelpings isn’t just about finding a business. It’s about connecting a community.
Imagine being able to discover what’s happening locally, find a business you didn’t know existed, come across an event you fancy going to, find a group you’d love to join or spot an opportunity that could open a door for you.
Imagine a small business getting in front of people who might never otherwise have found it. A community group finding new volunteers. An event reaching the people who would love it. A young person finding a first opportunity. One local business connecting with another and coming up with an idea they couldn’t have done alone.
These things happen already, of course. But imagine what could happen if we made those connections easier.
That’s what I’m working towards.
A place where local people, independent businesses, community organisations, events and opportunities can all come together and help one another.
And the starting point is simple.
Local discovery is free.
I want businesses to have the chance to be discovered without having to pay just to be part of the network. I want people to find out what’s on their doorstep. I want community organisations to have another way of getting their message out there.
Because I don’t see this as simply putting names on a page and leaving them there. The real value comes from what happens next.
Someone discovers a business. They pay it a visit. They tell a friend. That business gets another customer. Someone hears about an event and decides to go along. They meet somebody new. A conversation leads to an idea. An idea leads to an opportunity.
And suddenly, something that started with a simple discovery has turned into something much bigger.
That’s the potential of bringing people together.
And through Collective Commerce Group, I’m building the technology and the wider pieces that can help make those connections happen.
It’s a work in progress, and I’m not going to pretend I’ve got everything figured out. I’m building it, learning as I go, meeting people, listening, changing things and probably changing them again! 😂
But I genuinely believe there’s something worthwhile here.
Not because I think I can solve every problem, and not because I think one platform is going to magically fix everything.
It’s because I’ve seen what people can do when they come together, when they support one another and when they get the right opportunities in front of them.
And I reckon we could do a lot more of that.
I want EasyHelpings to be something that people can actually benefit from. Something that helps a local business get noticed, gives a community group another way to reach people, helps somebody find something new and creates opportunities that might otherwise have been missed.
Yes, I’m building a business, and CCG needs to become sustainable. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. But I don’t want to build something just for the sake of making money.
I want to build something that gives something back, creates value and makes a genuine difference to the people who get involved.
Because when local businesses do better, when community groups thrive, when more people get involved and when opportunities open up, that benefits far more than just one person or one organisation.
It benefits all of us.
And here’s the thing. We don’t have to start from scratch.
The people are already here. The businesses are already here. The ideas, events, groups, skills and opportunities are already here.
We just need to make them easier to discover and connect.
That’s why I keep doing Go and Discover. Every post is another little piece of the bigger picture. Every person I meet is another connection. Every story we share is another opportunity for somebody to find something they might otherwise have missed.
And now I’d love to get more people involved.
If you’re a local business, a community group, a charity, an event organiser, a volunteer, somebody with an idea or simply somebody who wants to see our local communities thrive, I’d love you to come along on this journey.
Tell me what you’re doing. Tell me what you need. Tell me what you’d love to see happening locally.
Let’s get to know one another, share what we’ve got going on and see what we can achieve when we start connecting the dots.
You never know where one conversation might lead.
We all have something to offer, and we all have something to gain from a stronger, more connected community.
People discover. People connect. People have a go. Businesses grow. Communities thrive.
That’s what EasyHelpings is about.
Not just a website. Not just a list of businesses.
Something that brings people together and helps good things happen.
And we’re only just getting started. 💚
Come and be part of it.
Go and Discover.
