Water company board appointments are about to change.

From 1 April 2026, Ofwat requires a fit and proper person test for every board-level Director at the 16 largest water companies in England and Wales.

This isn't an update. It's a brand-new rule under the Water (Special Measures) Act 2025.
New appointments must be screened from April 2026. Existing Directors assessed by April 2027. Annual re-assessments after that.

✈️ What do paper aeroplanes have to do with great teamwork? Quite a lot, as it turns out.

During our recent office team day, our Referencing team ran a Paper Aeroplane Challenge, and what started as a quick break became a mini design sprint: independent research, evidence-led debate, trade-offs, shared decisions, and a very committed final throw.

One unexpected twist (a team down a person at the last minute) even sparked a brilliant discussion about fairness and scoring, proof that strong problem-solving shows up in the smallest moments.

The best part? Seeing our values in action:

Our latest Verification Chronicles chapter reveals the extraordinary case of a serving police constable who stole from a vulnerable individual, all while presenting himself as a trustworthy hire in a new sector.

The twist?
His conviction appeared in real time as we processed his screening order. His reference still listed him as currently employed with no mention of suspension.
