There are many common misconceptions that small businesses owners have about cyber-security that is holding their company back.

Misconception #1 - Cyber Security is too complex
Just because you may not have an in-house IT department, doesn’t mean you can’t implement comprehensive security. With many software and services that are provided for SMEs, having strong protection is now a much more simple task.

Misconception #2 - Security is too expensive
It is reported that SMEs spend around 15% of their budget on cyber-security. To be advance your security you don't need to necessarily increase IT spend but just adjust how you are spending.

Misconceptions #3 - Security is not a business priority
It doesn't matter whether your a 2 person team or a big enterprise. If you deal with customer information you have the same accountability to secure data.

Emails are the most vital part of businesses, but they can also be the greatest risk to data breaches if managed incorrectly.

As business owners, it is your role in ensuring that sufficient security is in place to protect your company data but doesn’t impact emails from being received.

A straightforward way of protecting your emails is by setting up a spam filter. Removing any unsolicited emails and improves the quality of emails received by users. Another strategy is to regularly back up your emails in an easy to access backup storage.

These two techniques are just a start in many ways you can protect your emails. Contact us if you would like to find out how else we can upgrade your email security.

It is easy to fall into the trap of making all of your passwords the same or keeping the same password for years. But having a strong password that is separate from other accounts protect you from cybercriminals. If they steal your passwords for one of your accounts, they can’t use it to access other important accounts.

Do I still need an antivirus product in 2021?

Antivirus products detect and prevent malicious software and viruses on your computer or laptop. With the AV-TEST Institute reports that there are over 350,000 malware and potentially unwanted applications (PUA) a day, these products automatically update themselves to protect against the latest viruses and other types of malware.

Antivirus software is regularly included for free on some laptops and computers. However, you have to make sure that this built-in antivirus is switched on. Newer computers come with a trial version of a particular antivirus product installed, which we recommend paying to extend your licence when the trial version expires.

We know running is a business hard and managing costs can get very important. However, we believe that antivirus software is an inexpensive solution that protects your devices, and it is often not recognised for the value it adds.

If you need any further advice on protecting your business, please feel free to contact us.
