DIY lover unite! Are you based in or near Bath? Have you got a spare few hours next week? Come help us repaint our old shop and save us from a dilapidations report of £21k!

We’ve got to repaint the entire property asap so that we don’t end up with an enormous bill to pay to the estate agent 🫠😑

Where: 134 Walcot Street, Bath BA1 5BG
When: Monday 17th August
Tuesday 18th August
Wednesday 19th August
Saturday 22nd August
Time: between 10am and 5pm, just rock up!
Attire: your paintiest and least cared for clothing! Bring your own brush / rollers optional.

If you can spare a day or just a few hours i will be immensely grateful, it will really help!

Day 2 of our shop refurbishment in Chippenham, featuring a secret damp corner and a lot of plasterboard mess.

I would not normally wear a dress for renovations, just happened to be working in the shop earlier in the day. It’s a look! 💁🏻‍♀️🤣

Removing the false ceiling is incredibly exciting - the room looks so much bigger just with that extra foot of space above. Martin is doing a great job of attacking the ceiling. Next is cleaning up all the mess and removing the metal grid.

In May 2025 I disappeared for a top secret mission. It’s finally going to be on the tv!

Race Against the Tide is the niche competition show you didn’t know you needed - a sand sculpting competition, with seven teams battling it out to make the most elaborate and impressive creations in sand, all before the tide washes them away.

Each team is made up of a professional sand sculptor and a total noob (that’s me!) from all sorts of different backgrounds. I was lucky enough to be with Rachel Stubbs Art a blooming AMAZING artist, sand professional and hilariously dark humoured person.

The creations are judged and at the end of each episode one team gets sent home. You’ll have to watch to see how far I make it and who will be crowned the greatest sand champions.

My mantra of “I never get tired” was truly put to the test. Shovelling approximately 7 tons of sand is not for the weak I tell thee. I also realised I swear a LOT 🤣 oopsies.

Our new home: 144 Walcot Street, Bath BA1 5BD

A full to bursting shop of stationery delights, calligraphy equipment, fountain pens, ink and paper goods.

I’m very grateful for help behind the scenes in painting and prep of the space, making it all fresh and new. The furniture is a mixture of second hand items from fb marketplace and eBay, including the enormous and extremely heavy dresser. This was rescued from an upstairs kitchen, which me, Sammy and the owner of the property had to wrangle down some stairs. There was much disbelief that we would fit it in the small van. Thankfully I’m very good at Tetris.

Then on arrival in Bath, and with help from Sammy’s hubby Chris, I accosted a group on their way home from the pub to help us carry it into the building. Much hilarity ensued and shouts of “SIDE QUEST!”. People can be so great.

Of course, Martin was involved too (everyone needs a Martin) to fit the new lighting and get all the shelving attached to the wall.

Filling this new space has made us appreciate the huge variety of things that we stock. The new space is so colourful, cute and yummy. Yay for keeping this tiny space in Bath.

🍎 Stationery Fest New York 🍎 What an utter delight!

We met thousands of stationery nerds, saw millions of stickers, spoke to so many of you and got an excessive amount of compliments on our “cute accents”. Thank you for stopping by, for purchasing and geeking out with us. It was so great to meet you!

A big thank you to our booth neighbours Kwohtations for being lovely and talking letterpress with us, and to the amazingly organised team and volunteers of Stationery Fest we felt so well looked after and cared for throughout the whole event.

We’re staying a few extra days for some sightseeing (pinball museum, yarn shops, shopping and baseball game) before heading home and moving the big Heidelberg presses 😅 it’ll be fine!

BIG NEWS! 😱😱😱

Thanks to our successful Crowdfunder campaign we’ve finally bought our forever home. While all the solicitor back and forth was going on, I happened to walk past a newly empty shop just up the road from our current spot on Walcot Street in Bath.

It was tiny and cute and perfect for us to have a second retail space and stay on Walcot Street. I’ve taken the plunge! We’ll be closing the current shop at the end of July.

From Saturday 1st August you’ll find us at 144 Walcot Street. Bath, you can’t get rid of us that easily!

Meanwhile we’re hard at work renovating our new home in Chippenham. We’re aiming to open headquarters in September (date tbc but you’re all invited!)

If you’ve ever run more than one shop at the same time please drop any advice below, I’m learning by doing at the moment 🤪🤣

Day one of the shop refurb. Loads of progress made, shelving all down, removed a wall, giant pile of wood and so many screws.

Meanwhile the shop at 134 Walcot Street, Bath, is open as usual: 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday. Come visit us before we move!

In November I launched a Crowdfunder campaign after the rent at my current location increased by 31%. My aim was to purchase a commercial premises of my own, so we’d be in control of our destiny as far as premises is concerned. No more big increases, no more management fees, no feeling that the rug could be pulled at any moment.

It’s been 7 months of solicitors, emails, documents, more emails, phones calls, more documents, more emails, two rounds of me swearing, over 400 pages and 300 emails. We finally did it. Meticulous Ink has a new permanent home!

We expected to complete at the end of May, so now have only 3 weeks to complete the refurbishment as much as possible before the new flooring goes in and the presses have to move. All on a shoestring budget and alongside keeping the business running.

Can we do it? Is it even possible?! What do you reckon?

I tell thee, this shop purchase malarkey is not for the faint of heart. Months of answering questions, hundreds of emails, chasing, chasing some more, phone call after phone call, learning by doing and getting many admin based surprises along the way from bank and solicitors.

I wanted to say thank you immensely for being on this journey. Thank you for supporting the Crowdfunder and spending your hard earned cash on a stationery dream. Thank you for continuing to visit the shop, for coming to the onpaperfest, for checking in to see whats happening with the purchase even when the answer has still been “waiting on solicitors!”

We are so very close to this becoming real. On the verge of acquiring very magical keys. I HAVE THE CONTRACT!
