😬 Things people say immediately before a tech disaster...

πŸ’Ύ "I don't need to save it yet."

β˜• "It's fine, I'll put my tea here."

πŸ”„ "I'll restart it later."

πŸ“ "I'm pretty sure I've got a backup."

πŸ’» "It's been making that noise for ages."

πŸ–±οΈ "I don't know what that button does... I'll click it."

And the classic...

πŸ—‘οΈ "I'll definitely never need that file again."

Famous last words. πŸ˜‚

What would you add to the list? πŸ‘‡

Does your laptop have a "special angle" for charging? πŸ˜…

You know the one...
Cable slightly to the left.
Laptop balanced just so.
Nobody move.
Nobody breathe.

πŸ”‹ It's charging!

If this sounds familiar, something isn't right. It could be the charger itself, the charging socket, or damage inside the laptop – and continuing to wiggle it around can sometimes make the problem worse.

The good news is that charging problems are often repairable, so it doesn't necessarily mean a new laptop.

πŸ“© If yours requires a degree in cable positioning every time the battery gets low, drop us a message and we'll take a look! πŸ”§πŸ’»

πŸŽ’ Is the laptop ready for September?

We know, we know... there's still plenty of summer left! β˜€οΈ

But before the laptop that's been happily ignored for the last few weeks suddenly becomes essential again, now's a good time to give it a quick check.

πŸ’» Is it running properly?
πŸ”‹ Does the battery still hold a decent charge?
πŸ”Œ Is the charger intact and working?
πŸ“Ή Do the we**am and microphone work?
πŸ’Ύ Is there enough free space?
πŸ”„ Are all those Windows updates actually installed?

It's much better to discover a problem now than at 9pm the night before it's needed! 😬

If something isn't quite right, we can help with laptop repairs, upgrades and general health checks to get it ready for the new term.

πŸ“© Drop us a message and we'll be happy to take a look.

And maybe don't tell the kids we're already talking about September... 🀫

πŸ€” Finish the sentence...

My computer always decides to play up when...

We'll start...
πŸ’¬ "...I've got an important video call in five minutes."

Or maybe...
πŸ“„ "...I've nearly finished a document and forgotten to save it."

πŸ˜… We all know computers have an uncanny sense of timing!

What's your answer? Complete the sentence in the comments below - we'd love to hear your best (or worst!) tech timing stories.

πŸ”§ Ever wondered what happens after you leave your laptop with us?

It's not a case of plugging it in and hoping for the best!

Here's what normally happens behind the scenes:

πŸ“‹ 1. We book it in
We record the fault you've reported and give your device a quick visual inspection.

πŸ” 2. We investigate
We'll test the laptop to find the cause of the problem - not just the symptoms.

πŸ“ž 3. We let you know what we've found
If repairs are needed, we'll explain the options and provide a quote before any work goes ahead.

πŸ› οΈ 4. We carry out the repair
Whether it's replacing a part, cleaning the cooling system or fixing a charging issue, we treat every device with care.

βœ… 5. We test everything
Before it leaves the workshop, we make sure everything is working as it should.

We know your computer is important to you, so we always aim to keep you informed every step of the way.

πŸ’¬ Have you ever wondered what happens during a repair? Ask away in the comments - we're always happy to answer!

πŸ“Ά What's an SSID?

It sounds like one of those tech terms designed to confuse everyone...

But it's actually really simple!

Your SSID is just the name of your Wi-Fi network.

So if your phone can see things like:

πŸ“Ά BT-7G4J
πŸ“Ά SKY12345
πŸ“Ά BlackOwl-WiFi
..those are all SSIDs.

Think of it like the name on your front door. It tells your phone, tablet or laptop which Wi-Fi network it should connect to.

The Wi-Fi password is a separate thingβ€”that's what proves you're allowed to join the network.

So next time someone asks, "What's your SSID?", they're really just asking...

πŸ’¬ "What's the name of your Wi-Fi?"

Now you know! 😊

Have you got a tech term you've heard but never really understood? Pop it in the comments and we might explain it in a future post.

πŸ”‹ Should you leave your laptop plugged in all the time?

It's one of the questions we're asked most, and the answer is good news...

For most modern laptops, yes!

Today's laptops are much smarter than they used to be. Once the battery is fully charged, they stop charging it and simply run from the mains power instead. So you don't need to worry about "overcharging" it.

What actually shortens a battery's life?

🌑️ Heat.

Using your laptop on a duvet, blocking the air vents, or letting it get too hot will do far more damage than leaving it plugged in while you're working.

If your laptop spends most of its life on a desk, keeping it on charge is absolutely fine. Just make sure it has plenty of airflow, keep the vents free from dust, and give it the occasional restart.

πŸ’¬ Got a tech question you've always wondered about? Let us know in the commentsβ€”we might feature it in a future post!

πŸ”§ Ever wondered what actually goes into a computer repair?

From the outside, it might look like we just undo a few screws and swap a part.

The reality is often very different!

πŸ“Έ This laptop had to be stripped right down just to reach the processor.

That meant carefully removing the base, disconnecting delicate cables, taking off the cooling system, cleaning away the old thermal paste, applying fresh thermal paste correctly, then rebuilding and thoroughly testing everything before it was ready to go home.

It's the sort of work you never see once the laptop is back togetherβ€”but it's often what makes the biggest difference.

Not every repair is about fitting shiny new parts. Sometimes, giving the hardware a bit of expert care is all it takes to get it running smoothly again.

πŸ”§ That's the bit we enjoy most.

πŸ“© If your computer isn't running quite like it used to, drop us a message. We'd be happy to take a look.
