Here’s another cool bit of tech we’re setting up for the GameGrid, though this is one you won’t really see usually – lurking in the background of our network is a new server that provides the disk configuration to all of our systems – serving up games as quickly as if they were already installed locally in the PCs, but it helps us update games across the room quicker and keep settings consistent across all the systems.

We have a new 2.5Gb network with dual 10Gb connections to this server and the server is equipped with fast PCI Express 4.0 storage – normally the kind of networking gear you would see running the backbone of a big business, but we’re using it here with the ggRock software to make sure games load fast and work consistently, every time.

Keep watching here for news about opening soon!

We're busy rebuilding some smashing new PCs ready for re-opening the GameGrid soon - watch this space for an opening date in the near future.

The new towers are nearly twice as fast as the systems we ran previously, featuring Ryzen 5 5600X processors and GeForce RTX 2070 graphics which are both a huge step up from before and mean more games will make full use of the 144Hz screens at higher detail levels.

We can't wait to let you loose on them!

Apologies there's not been much in the way of updates here regarding an opening date.

There's admittedly quite a lot of variables at play just now and we have to make sure to do the right thing - you can likely appreciate there is some risk involved with having more people in the building - we have to keep our other business interests ticking over as well (computer build / upgrade / repair) which is currently in huge demand at the moment.

You'll likely have seen that we were finding new homes for the PCs that were in the arena, and we can pull the trigger on building new ones shortly, but with some new hardware launches due in the next month or so and the chance of further restrictions / lockdown hovering over us, it makes most sense to hold back a little longer rather than rush in now and then find we're forced to close again in a week or two.

We'll update here as soon as we have a definite way forward. Of course information will be updated here, on the website and on our discord when we have further news.

With a go-ahead for venues including arcades allowed to open by the Scottish Government, we are expecting to have the GameGrid open (albeit in limited form - more details to follow about times and booking arrangements) around mid-September.

The expectation at first is that we won't be able to have this open during the weekday daytime, but we'll be looking to operate on weekday evenings and selected hours over weekends as well (this will include adding some Sunday opening time).

There's a few things in motion just now (new ventilation being installed and 6 faster new systems being built to replace the original 10, we won't be able to seat 10 people while social distancing remains a thing) which will take a little more time and additionally we'll be needing to look at a new method for booking time as well so that we can be fully on top of any requirements for cleaning and any obligations for contact tracing.

We'll make clear an opening date as soon as we can be definite about it, but as it stands we're working towards middle of September.

Fancy a section of the Grid? The towers used in the GameGrid arena are for sale - realistically we don't see it happening that we'll have 10 spaces usable in there for a little while yet so there's no point having an excess of computers on hand. Can purchase on the website here - https://www.kustompcs.co.uk/pc-systems/desktops/refurbished-gaming-desktops/kustom-mb500-rgb-ryzen-5-rx-580-ssd-refurbished-gaming-pc/

Note, that the screens / keyboards / mice are not for sale, this is for the towers only. These are reduced by about £230 compared to new equivalents and are in warranty until March 2022.

The systems are immaculate, have been used for around 10 months but have been untouched (kept high up so there's no marks on them and even they are powered up remotely when in our centre so even the power buttons have barely a finger print on them)

Reminder as well that computers are not sent by courier, so this is really just relevant to those within driving distance of Ayr.

GRADE A Used / Refurbished Product - System from GameGrid Arena - Includes geniune new Windows 10 - Warranty until March 2022 PC used in our gaming grid arena - we don t expect to be able to use all of these soon so are offering them for sale at a decent discount versus equivalent brand new PCs Syst...

We run an online racing night every Thursday at 8pm - you'll need a wheel at home to take part just now although these will be available to join in back in the shop in future.

RaceRoom Experience night (needs Starter Pack + European Track Pack) is Thursday 2nd at 8pm

Assetto Corsa Competizione - 2 hours (with 24h day /night cycle) Endurance Race at Spa is Thursday 9th July at 8pm.

Details of these and how to join up are listed both on the calendar on www.kustom.gg and also on our Discord server https://discord.gg/bkV8yr9

To remind though, these are not events in the store just now - it's play at home from online and you'll need a wheel and own the game content on your own accounts.

We're being asked a lot this week about opening the gaming space - the reality is we don't know a date for opening yet and it's really down to advice from the government saying it's legitimate to go ahead and do so, and we need to be comfortable everything is in place for the area to be both fun and safe.

Realistically, these factors need to fall into play before we can consider a re-opening date -

* Opening up of Indoor hospitality (subject to physical distancing rules and public health advice)

* Social Distancing reduced from 2 metres to 1 metre or less.

It's admittedly likely there will not be quite the same normal for a while at first, we're anticipating running reduced spaces rather than 10 in the room, and it's likely that the gaming area and shop will not be operating at the same times initially, that is, the gaming area will operate in the evenings only and we'll look at reviewing the opening time of the shop counter on Saturdays so that there's no conflicts.

Updates will continue to be made when we know them, but really just wanting to clarify that we're not expecting this to be particularly soon and most likely not during July. Obviously we'll post up as soon as there's a definite date to open up again.

We're planning on hosting a few GameGrid community play-at-home nights, covering a variety of themes, but we want to make sure we kick things off on the right foot. We're pitching week one to have a low barrier for entry, so games that are free or cheap, or that most people already own.

--==VOTE FOR GAMES==--

So, smash the 👍 button if you think week one should be FREE SOURCE GAMES [e.g. Fistful of Frags, Goldeneye, TF2 ]

Hit the ❤️ for a SPORTS FUN NIGHT [ e.g. Golf with your friends, Rocket League ]

Crush the 😆 for some EPIC STORE FREEBIES [ e.g. For the King, World War Z ]

OR, write in the comments below what games you want to play with/against our GameGrid regulars!

Come join us in the GameGrid DISCORD [ https://discord.gg/bkV8yr9 ], for more immediate updates about play times, some general banter or to argue as to why we should all just be coming to your Animal Crossing island instead of shooting each other ( I'll bring the Cutting Board recipe so you can finish your IRONWOOD KITCHENETTE!)

It's not nice news, but we will need to close the gaming area for now. Our shop counter for PC parts, sales, repairs, upgrades will continue to operate as normal, but the message from the government is clear that going out to socialise is not sensible when taking the full picture into consideration.

Obviously it's a sad and unfortunate decision for any business - especially as we were just gaining some good traction with regular visitors, some great events and a growing community, but have to keep the sensible hat on here and put health first - not just of our customers and staff, but those they come in contact with too.

However, we will of course be back, there will still be great gaming times to be had in the not too distant future. We'll be having a look at some ideas of maybe doing a couple of online events per week shortly, and will post up some ideas for those.

While we might all be isolated in our own walls over the coming weeks, it would be nice to try and get Ayr together online, so that we can keep everyone's moods up, by shooting each other.

Updates regarding shop area will continue on the same page as posted a few days ago -
