🚀 Inspiring the Next Generation of Highland Tech!
Stuart Boon, from the Software Engineering team at Quarch Technology, recently joined the Digital Technology & Computing Fair at Kingussie High School . Stuart brought along our power analysis products, breakers and a selection of drives for live demos, showing S2 pupils exactly what we build right here in the 🏔️
After a brief presentation on Quarch, the kids played "Yank the Drive" — pulling a drive from an imaginary server while it wrote photos. Pull too soon and photos corrupt; pull too late and you waste electricity (bad for the environment and your wallet). Teams timed attempts and refined their guesses to find the sweet spot, demonstrating how iterative testing and informed decisions lead to the right answer.
After winning the game, they built a Python program to test the same problem — unscrambling the code on paper before running it on a computer. Five increasingly complex iterations were no match for them, and the bright minds solved every one with ease.
It was a brilliant opportunity to show that world-class software engineering happens right on their doorstep in Aviemore and hopefully inspire some young minds - perfect timing as these students prepare for their S3 elective choices!
A huge thanks to the staff and students for the warm welcome. The future of Highland tech is looking bright!
